Improved anaerobic digestion activity of poultry dung with pumice-supported trace elements: focus on the statistical optimization approach

Summary: In this study, two types of pumice were used as trace element additives for anaerobic digestion of poultry dung. The results showed that the operating parameters have significant effects on the biogas production, COD removal, and methane content. The optimized conditions resulted in higher biogas production and COD removal for both types of pumice, and the bimetallic material of Ni and Mo showed a synergistic effect on the anaerobic digestion process.

Influence of Mo plus F incorporation and point of zero charge on the dye degradation efficacy of ZnO thin films

Summary: This study focuses on the analysis of the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO:F:Mo thin films for the degradation of cationic and anionic dyes. The efficiency significantly increases when F and Mo are added as co-dopants. Optical and pH studies provide insights into the reasons for the enhanced efficiency, and the role of the point of zero charge on dye degradation is investigated and reported.

Biogenic synthesis of reduced graphene oxide decorated with silver nanoparticles (rGO/Ag NPs) using table olive (olea europaea) for efficient and rapid catalytic reduction of organic pollutants

Summary: Graphene oxide (GO) sheets were prepared by electrochemical exfoliation and subsequent oxidation, and then reduced graphene oxide adorned with silver nanoparticles (rGO/Ag NPs) was synthesized using olive fruit extract. The prepared catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol and rhodamine B, with rate constants of 0.021 and 0.022 s-1, respectively. The regenerated catalyst showed no loss of catalytic efficiency after seven cycles, indicating its potential as a heterogeneous catalyst for transforming harmful organic contaminants into less harmful compounds.

Catalytic activity of silver nanocomposite alginate beads for degradation of basic dye: Kinetic and isothermal study

Summary: This study successfully degraded the model anionic dye Basic Blue 3 using prepared Ca-alginate/silver (Ca-ALG/Ag) nanocomposite beads as catalyst. The physicochemical properties of the nanocomposite beads were characterized using various techniques, confirming their effectiveness in dye degradation. Different kinetic and isothermal models revealed that the degradation process using Ca-ALG/Ag nanocomposite beads as catalyst best fit the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model.

Enhanced adsorption capacity of low-cost magnetic clinoptilolite powders/beads for the effective removal of methylene blue: Adsorption and desorption studies

Summary: The study prepared Clinoptilolite/Fe3O4 (Clin/Fe3O4) nanocomposite powders and Alginate/Clinoptilolite/Fe3O4 (Alg/Clin/Fe3O4) nanocomposite beads for methylene blue (MB) cationic dye removal. The synthesized adsorbents were characterized and showed high efficiency in MB dye removal, exceeding 90%. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm model, with a monolayer adsorption capacity determined for each adsorbent. The kinetic data indicated a pseudo-second order (PSO) kinetic model and the thermodynamic results showed that the adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous, with regeneration experiments demonstrating good potential for reuse.

A novel route to the synthesis of α-Fe2O3@C@SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposite from the metal-organic framework as a photocatalyst for water treatment

Summary: In this study, magnetic iron particles based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized as photocatalysts for textile dye wastewater treatment. A novel two-step dry method was used to synthesize Fe-MOFs derived magnetic carbon nanocomposite and alpha-Fe2O3@C@SiO2/TiO2. The as-synthesized nanocomposite materials showed enhanced photocatalytic activity and degradation efficiency for Reactive yellow 145 (RY145) dye. The study also provided insights into the structural characterization and reaction kinetics of the photocatalytic process.

Summary: A protocol for colorimetric detection of potentially hazardous Hg2+ ions was developed using sonochemical-assisted eco-friendly synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) prepared with avocado seed extract. The AgNPs showed good selective sensing response towards Hg2+ ions with a color change and disappearance of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band. The unmodified green synthesized AV-AgNPs exhibited promising potential for on-site detection of Hg2+ in water samples.

Investigation of Mercury(II) and Arsenic(V) adsorption onto sulphur functionalised pumice: a response surface approach for optimisation and modelling

Summary: In this study, the effect of initial metal concentration, initial pH, adsorbent dosage and contact time on the adsorption of Hg(II) and As(V) was investigated using the Central Composite Design. The experimental results showed that P-SH had a high adsorption capacity for both metals, with a removal efficiency of 92.14% for Hg(II) and 88.02% for As(V) under the optimum conditions determined by numerical optimization. The adsorption kinetics data for both metals followed the pseudo-second-order equation, and the equilibrium data fit well with the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. Therefore, P-SH has potential applications for removing heavy metals from wastewater.

Removal of Rhodamine B from aqueous solution by stalk corn activated carbon: adsorption and kinetic study

Summary: Calcium carbonate hollow microspheres with a micro-nano hierarchical structure were successfully synthesized using EDTA-2Na as an additive, with a diameter of 4-6 μm and a wall thickness of 100 nm assembled into cubic shape nanoparticles. The fluorescence analysis revealed that the luminescence intensity of the product increased with an increasing Eu3+ content in the microspheres, reaching maximum intensity at 4% content.
