A computational finding on the effect of π-conjugated acceptors in thiophene-linked coumarin dyes for potential suitability in DSSC application

Sudip Mandal et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential suitability of four thiophene-linked coumarin dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT methods. The results showed that the presence of pi-conjugated acceptor moieties enhanced the intensity of the intramolecular charge transfer band, leading to better photovoltaic performance and absorption properties for the C3 dye. Therefore, C3 dye holds potential for application in DSSCs.

Role of solvents in molecular level interaction, reactivity and spectral characterisation of 2-Amino-3-(((E)-4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene)amino) maleonitrile: Anti depressant agent

J. N. Cheerlin Mishma et al.

Summary: 2-Amino-3-(((E)-4-(dimethylamino) benzylidene) amino) maleonitrile (DMABAM) has been investigated for its structural, spectroscopic, reactivity, and in silico antidepressant action. The amino derivative was synthesized and studied using DFT, and predicted vibration wave numbers were compared with experimental findings. Solvents had a significant impact on the compound's properties and molecular reactivity. The electronic properties of solvents and their polarity were found to be closely related. Molecular docking and analysis suggested potential antidepressant activity for 2-Amino-3-(((E)-4-(dimethylamino) benzylidene) amino) maleonitrile.

Toward functionalization of ZnO nanotubes and monolayers with 5-aminolevulinic acid drugs as possible nanocarriers for drug delivery: a DFT based molecular dynamic simulation

Masoumeh Mohammadzaheri et al.

Summary: In this study, the interactions between a 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) drug and ZnO nanostructures were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that ALA interacts with ZnO nanotubes (ZnONTs) and ZnO monolayers through chemisorption. The semiconductor properties of the substrates were preserved after ALA adsorption. Molecular dynamic (MD) simulations revealed that ALA moves towards the interior sidewall of the ZnONTs and ZnO nanosheet surface and binds to the Zn atom.

The effect of coupling and di-anchoring group in the performance of triphenylamine-based dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells

Bakhytzhan Baptayev et al.

Summary: The effect of di-anchoring group on the photovoltaic performance was investigated. The results showed that the di-anchoring sensitizer exhibited a 7% increase in its conversion efficiency compared to the mono-anchoring sensitizer. This increase was mainly attributed to the red-shifting and widening of the absorption spectra, leading to improved light harvesting efficiency.

Summary: One key strategy to improve the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells is to incorporate various functional groups in a molecule. In this study, a series of small molecule-based non-fullerene acceptors were developed for organic solar cells. The materials were characterized using density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory. The results showed that these materials exhibited higher absorption efficiency and lower energy levels, which could enhance the performance of the solar cells.

Summary: This work investigates the influence of 2nd-row transition metals on the structural geometries, electronic structures, and absorption characteristics of porphyrin linked with C-60 fullerene compounds. The calculations show that different metals lead to different bridge conformation and energy levels. All compounds have enhanced absorptions in the visible light range and meet the conditions of sensitizers. Except for down spin states, the complexes exhibit considerable charge spatial separation.

Designing of benzodithiophene core-based smallmolecular acceptors for efficient non-fullerene organic solar cells

Muhammad Yasir Mehboob et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the theoretical design of five novel Benzodithiophene core-based acceptor molecules to enhance the performance of organic solar cells. End-capped acceptor modification with strong electron withdrawing groups has resulted in high charge mobility and red-shifting in absorption spectrum for the designed molecules. The low excitation and binding energies, along with a low HOMO-LUMO energy gap, make the H1-H5 molecules suitable candidates for high-efficiency organic solar cells.
