Biofabrication of ZnO nanoparticles using Acacia arabica leaf extract and their antibiofilm and antioxidant potential against foodborne pathogens

Summary: In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were synthesized from aqueous leaf extract of Acacia arabica and characterized. The results revealed that the green synthesized ZnO NPs exhibited strong antibacterial activity against foodborne pathogens, inhibiting both biofilm formation and exopolysaccharide production. The nanoparticles also showed significant antioxidant potential and were non-toxic to HeLa cell lines at the tested concentrations. These findings suggest that green synthesized ZnO NPs can be used as alternative therapeutic agents against antibiotic resistant foodborne pathogens.

Summary: In recent times, there has been growing interest in the simple, eco-friendly, and cost-effective synthesis of nanoparticles through green technology. This report describes the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles through both green and chemical routes. The green synthesis utilized Erythrina variegata leaf extract as a capping and stabilizing agent, while the chemical synthesis employed sodium hydroxide as a reducing agent. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the green synthesized ZnO nanoparticles, including UV-visible, XRD, FTIR, DLS, HR-TEM, EDX, and mapping analyses. The results demonstrated the high crystalline nature of the nanoparticles, their surface plasmon resonance band, and the presence of Zn and O elements. The nanoparticles also exhibited strong antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic activities. These findings highlight the potential applications of green synthesized ZnO nanoparticles as antibacterial and antioxidant agents.

The optimum adsorption conditions were determined as 0.2 g adsorbent dose, 100 mg/L dye solution, 50 min contact time, and a solution pH of 6. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir model with a high adsorption capacity. The thermodynamic data indicated that the adsorption process is endothermic, spontaneous, and exhibits randomness at the HALP/solution interface.

Green nanotechnology, an environmentally friendly process that eliminates the use of toxic compounds, serves as an alternative to conventional chemical and physical processes. In this study, natural product nanoparticles with a hexagonal shape and a size of approximately 51 nm were synthesized using the leaf extract of Ocimum tenuiflorum Var. Ram tulsi, and their characterization was performed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis.

Summary: This study investigated the aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) containing [EPy]BF4, sodium-based salts, and water to extract 2-chlorophenol, demonstrating that the salt-outing ability of Na2CO3 is better than NaH2PO4. The results showed that [EPy]BF4 + Na2CO3 ATPS outperformed [EPy]BF4 + NaH2PO4 ATPS in applications for extracting phenolic compounds.

Synthesis of Ni-doped anatase TiO2single crystals loaded on wood-based activated carbon for enhanced photodegradation of triphenylmethane dyes

Summary: In this study, Ni-doped anatase TiO2 single crystals loaded on activated carbon were synthesized using a sol-gel method. The nanocomposites showed excellent photocatalytic activity in degrading crystal violet, basic fuchsine, and malachite green when compared to pure TiO2. The enhanced performance was attributed to the small crystallite size, large specific surface area, and pore volume of the photocatalysts, providing a promising route for efficient removal of triphenylmethane dyes.

Effect of Growth Temperature on Morphological, Structural, and Optical Properties of ZnO Nanorods Using Modified Chemical Bath Deposition Method

Summary: In this study, zinc oxide nanorods were synthesized at different growth temperatures using a modified chemical bath deposition method. The results showed that the ZnO nanorods grown at 95 degrees Celsius exhibited the most favorable outcome with optimal, homogeneous, and uniform distribution, as well as higher aspect ratio, crystal quality, crystal size, and band gap energy.

Comparative study of photocatalysis and gas sensing of ZnO/Ag nanocomposites synthesized by one- and two-step polymer-network gel processes

Summary: The catalytic and sensing performance of ZnO/Ag nanocomposites is greatly influenced by the synthesis method used. A comparative study was conducted to investigate the differences between one-step and two-step polymer network gel synthesis techniques. The results showed that ZnO/Ag nanocomposites synthesized by the two-step method exhibit enhanced photocatalytic efficiency, gas sensing sensitivity, stability, and selectivity, with specific microstructures and optical characteristics as revealed by various analytical methods.

The nanoparticles were characterized by various techniques and showed potential antibacterial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antiparasitic, and larvicidal properties. The synthesized nanoparticles also demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and photocatalytic activity towards degrading methylene blue dye.
