Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer From Elliptic Tube Immersed in a Fluidized Bed

M. A. Mohammad et al.

Summary: Heat transfer characteristics around an elliptic heated tube immersed in fluidized bed were experimentally investigated. The results showed that the minimum fluidization velocity increased with the increase in bed particles diameter. The local Nusselt number was larger at the sides of the heated tube and smaller at the stagnation and top. Meanwhile, both local and average Nusselt numbers increased with the increase of the fluidization velocity and decrease in particle diameter.

Behrooz Jadidi et al.

Summary: Discrete element method (DEM) and statistical analysis were used to analyze the flow patterns and mixing mechanisms of a double paddle blender. The study found that impeller speed and initial loading pattern had significant effects on the mixing performance, and diffusion was identified as the dominant mixing mechanism in the blender.

Conversion air velocity at which reverse density segregation converts to normal density segregation in a vibrated fluidized bed of binary particulate mixtures

Jun Oshitani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of different-density particles in a vertically vibrated fluidized bed at various air velocities. It is found that reverse segregation converts to normal segregation at a certain air velocity, which is close to the minimum fluidization velocity of the lighter particles.

Scaling up studies for mixing of granular materials in rotating drums

Angga Pratama Herman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mixing of granular materials in rotating drums with different volumes. The results show that mixing performance is affected by drum size and particle diameter. A correlation equation is proposed for predicting mixing rate, and the ratio of drum diameter to particle diameter influences particle travel distances and displacements. The findings are significant for understanding the mixing mechanism of granular materials.

Experimental investigation of segregation in a rotating drum with non-spherical particles

Sunil Kumar et al.

Summary: The current investigation focuses on studying the impact of particle shape on the segregation of a bi-disperse mixture of particles in a rotating drum. Various particle parameters such as shape, size, density, and size ratio, as well as system parameters like time and rotational speed, are examined. The results indicate that both the shape of coarse and fine particles influence the mixing process. The choice of particle shape can be used to control segregation in different industrial scenarios.

Experimental investigation into the wet non-spherical granular segregation and mixing in rotating drums

Yun-Chi Chung et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally investigates the wet non-spherical granular segregation in a quasi-2D rotating drum. The results reveal that both the long axis ratio and the liquid content play crucial roles in wet non-spherical granular segregation. The steady-state segregation index decreases with the increase of the long axis ratio and increases with liquid content.

DEM study of particle segregation in a rotating drum with internal diameter variations

A. N. Huang et al.

Summary: DEM simulations were used to study size segregation of binary mixture in a rotating drum with inner diameter variations. The results showed that larger particle enrichment occurs in the smaller inner diameter regions. The effect of inner diameter contracting ratio (CR) on particle dynamics was further investigated, with CR of 0.9 leading to smaller particles moving towards dilated larger inner diameter regions.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamics of non-spherical particles compared to spherical particles using a combination of physical and DEM modeling approaches. The simulation results showed significant differences in particle movement, structure, and participation in high energy impact actions between cubical and spherical particles. The computation time of the simulation increased by 35 times when particles changed from spherical to cubical shape.

Experimental Investigation of Segregation for Nonspherical Particles in a Fluidized Bed Solids Mixer

Sanjay Kumar Verma et al.

Summary: Particles in a binary mixture tend to segregate due to differences in size, shape, or density, which can have negative impacts on process efficiency and product quality. The study shows that using non-spherical particles can help reduce segregation, and particle shape plays a crucial role in determining the extent of segregation.
