Simultaneously Suppressing Shuttle Effect and Dendrite Growth in Lithium-Sulfur Batteries via Building Dual-Functional Asymmetric-Cellulose Gel Electrolyte

Yangze Huang et al.

Summary: Polysulfide shuttling and interfacial instability of Lithium-anode are major technical issues hindering commercialization of high-energy-density lithium-sulfur batteries. The authors have designed an asymmetric cellulose gel electrolyte, a defective and ionized UiO66/black phosphorus heterostructure coating layer (Di-UiO66/BP), and a cationic cellulose gel electrolyte (QACA) to simultaneously address the challenges in both S-cathode and Li-anode. The superior performance of QACA/Di-UiO66/BP leads to outstanding electrochemical performance, high sulfur utilization, high-rate capacity, and long cycle lifespan.

All-Solid-State Thin-Film Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Renming Deng et al.

Summary: Thin-film all-solid-state lithium-sulfur (TFLSBs) batteries were successfully fabricated using vertical graphene nanosheets-Li2S (VGsLi(2)S) composite thin-film cathode, lithium-phosphorous-oxynitride (LiPON) thin-film solid electrolyte, and Li metal anode. The solid-state Li-S system with an unlimited Li reservoir fundamentally eliminated the shuttle effect and maintained a stable VGs-Li2S/LiPON interface, demonstrating excellent long-term cycling stability and high temperature tolerance. This study presents a new development strategy for secure and high-performance rechargeable all-solid-state thin-film batteries.
