Recent progress and future prospects on aqueous foams stabilized based on clay minerals

Fangzhi Duan et al.

Summary: Aqueous foams are widely used in various industries due to their green, safe, convenient, and non-toxic properties. Clay minerals have recently gained attention for their unique nanostructure, abundance, low cost, and biocompatibility, making them ideal stabilizers for aqueous foams. However, information on aqueous foams stabilized with clay minerals is disorganized and lacks systematic review. This comprehensive review provides detailed classification and characteristics of clay minerals, reviews their research and application in aqueous foam over the past two decades, and identifies current challenges and future opportunities.

Enhancing protein-based foam stability by xanthan gum and alkyl glycosides for the reduction of odor emissions from polluted soils

Hao Gu et al.

Summary: Odorous contamination in polluted soils during remediation was successfully suppressed using a novel foam composed of plant protein, xanthan gum, and alkyl glycosides. Optimal ratio of xanthan gum to alkyl glycosides was crucial in determining foam formulation, with a xanthan gum concentration of 0.30% resulting in increased viscosity, longer foam half-life, and decreased foaming volume. The addition of alkyl glycosides further enhanced foam performance, significantly reducing surface tension and increasing foaming volume under a xanthan gum concentration of 0.30%.
