The effect of Pt/Pd ratio on the oxidation activity and resistance to sulfur poisoning for Pt-Pd/BEA diesel oxidation catalysts with high siliceous content

Phuoc Hoang Ho et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of the Pt/Pd ratio on the oxidation activity and sulfur resistance of diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC). The formation of Pt-Pd alloy enhances the sintering resistance of Pt and retains a high fraction of Pd. The Pt-Pd alloy also improves the oxidation resistance and enhances the activity of the catalysts for CO and C3H6 oxidation. Bimetallic catalysts show lower temperatures for NO reduction but lower absolute conversion of NO due to the decrease in Pt active sites. Moreover, bimetallic catalysts exhibit significantly improved sulfur resistance compared to monometallic Pd catalysts.

Understanding the impact of poison distribution on the performance of Diesel oxidation catalysts

Miren Agote-Aran et al.

Summary: Understanding the poisoning mechanism in Diesel oxidation catalysts is crucial in preventing long term catalyst deterioration in vehicles. Both impregnation and spraying methods of artificial phosphorus poisoning were studied on a commercial DOC, with spraying resulting in more detrimental poison distribution and decreased NO oxidation performance compared to impregnation. Sequential treatments were conducted to gain deeper insight into the catalyst deactivation mechanism.

Interaction between phosphorus and zeolite/binder: A realumination study on beta zeolites

Baoyu Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that phosphoric acid treatment increased the content of tetrahedral framework Al species in beta zeolite and generated aluminophosphate that reduced the catalyst's external surface area without affecting its catalytic ability. The realumination behavior of beta zeolite was proposed, where polyphosphate reacted with hexa-coordinated aluminum to form amorphous aluminophosphate species transferred to the zeolite structure cavity for realumination. The impact of phosphoric acid modification on the activity of synthesized polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers was discussed, showing a notable reduction in the time required for conversion.

The role of Pd-Pt Interactions in the Oxidation and Sulfur Resistance of Bimetallic Pd-Pt/γ-Al2O3 Diesel Oxidation Catalysts

Phuoc Hoang Ho et al.

Summary: Diesel oxidation catalysts were studied for their oxidation activity, NO conversion stability, and sulfur poisoning/regeneration properties on different catalysts. The Pd-Pt/Al2O3 catalyst showed superior performance in CO, C3H8, and C3H6 oxidation, but faced challenges in complete regeneration due to stable sulfates.

Efficient Strategy to Regenerate Phosphorus-Poisoned Cu-SSZ-13 Catalysts for the NH3-SCR of NOx: The Deactivation and Promotion Mechanism of Phosphorus

Zhen Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that washing with hot water can regenerate phosphorus-poisoned Cu-SSZ-13 catalyst, restoring its performance and prolonging its lifespan. The promotion effect of phosphorus on SCR performance after regeneration is attributed to the decrease in CuO species content and recovery of acid sites and active Cu2+ ions.

Characterization of Pt-based oxidation catalyst-Deactivated simultaneously by sulfur and phosphorus

Mari Honkanen et al.

Summary: Simultaneous sulfur+phosphorus poisoning on platinum-based diesel oxidation catalyst significantly affects catalyst activity by blocking adsorption sites for sulfur species on alumina and leading to sulfur mainly adsorbing on cerium oxides, while remaining with and near platinum particles to block active sites.

On the relevance of P poisoning in real-world DOC aging

Miren Agote-Aran et al.

Summary: This study investigated the aging process of Diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) and found that chemical poisoning, rather than noble metal sintering, played a major role in deactivation. The distribution of poisons in the washcoat showed a preferential accumulation of phosphorous (P) over sulfur (S), with phosphorous being particularly detrimental for NO oxidation. Adding 2.5 wt.% phosphorous to the unused catalyst affected the oxidation state of active metals, providing further insight into the deactivating role of this poison.

The Effect of Si/Al Ratio on the Oxidation and Sulfur Resistance of Beta Zeolite-Supported Pt and Pd as Diesel Oxidation Catalysts

Phuoc Hoang Ho et al.

Summary: Pt and Pd supported on beta zeolites with different silica to alumina ratios were studied as diesel oxidation catalysts. High silica to alumina ratio zeolites showed better oxidation activity and resistance to sintering. The research indicates that the catalyst performance can be tailored by adjusting the silica to alumina ratio of the zeolite support.
