Ozonation of organic compounds in water and wastewater: A critical review

Sungeun Lim et al.

Summary: Ozonation has a long history in water treatment and has been used for disinfection and oxidation of pollutants. In recent years, it has been increasingly applied for enhanced municipal wastewater treatment and water reuse. The research on ozonation has contributed to a better understanding of the removal efficiency of organic contaminants and the formation of transformation products.

Biologically Enhanced Coagulation-Ultrafiltration Process for Healthy Water Production with Low Fouling Propensity

Lei Xu et al.

Summary: The study highlights the potential advantages of using a biologically enhanced coagulation-ultrafiltration (CUF) process for treating drinking water, including superior removal of natural organic matter (NOM) and enhanced anti-fouling performance. The biologically enhanced CUF process showed significantly higher membrane flux compared to conventional CUF and direct UF processes, and it effectively removed biopolymers, which are the main cause of membrane fouling. The combined process also resulted in a reduction in hydrophobicity, aromaticity, and molecular weight of dissolved organics.

The Influence of Small Organic Molecules on Coagulation from the Perspective of Hydrolysis Competition and Crystallization

Xuejia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of organic compounds on the coagulation performance by affecting metal hydrolysis and nanoparticle properties during the coagulation process. The presence of low molecular weight organics was found to have varying effects on the coagulation performance of alum, with different chemical bonds playing a role in influencing the interactions.
