Carbon Dioxide Valorization into Methane Using Samarium Oxide-Supported Monometallic and Bimetallic Catalysts

Radwa A. El-Salamony et al.

Summary: Samarium oxide (Sm2O3) is a versatile surface for CO2 and H-2 interaction and conversion. Different catalysts supported by samarium oxide, including Ni, Co-Ni, and Ru-Ni, were tested for CO2 methanation and characterized through multiple techniques. The results showed that the selectivity of CH4 was around 98%, while the selectivity of CO varied depending on the catalyst composition. Co-impregnation of cobalt with nickel over Sm2O3 resulted in higher CO selectivity, while co-impregnation of ruthenium and nickel led to carbonate species and high CH4 selectivity.

CO2 methanation over Ni-Al LDH-derived catalyst with variable Ni/Al ratio

Yan Resing Dias et al.

Summary: CO2 methanation is a promising technology to recycle CO2 into useful chemicals, fuels, and energy, while avoiding its emissions in the atmosphere. In this study, Ni-Al LDH-derived catalysts with different Ni/Al ratios were prepared by co-precipitation and evaluated for CO2 methanation. The catalyst with a Ni/Al ratio of 2 exhibited high activity and selectivity, achieving 92.3% CO2 conversion and 100% CH4 selectivity.

Role of phase in NiMgAl mixed oxide catalysts for CO2 dry methane reforming (DRM)

Huy Nguyen-Phu et al.

Summary: We developed a synthesis route for highly active and stable nickel-based catalysts for dry methane reforming by manipulating the Mg/Al ratio. The presence of both spinel and periclase phases in the catalysts at a Mg/Al ratio of 1.5 (Ni-Mg1.5AlOx) resulted in the highest activity and stability. This work highlights the influence of catalyst phase on key factors determining activity and stability.

Unsupported Ni-Co alloy as efficient catalysts for CO2 methanation

Lidan Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between Ni and Co in unsupported Ni/Co catalysts and its influence on the CO2 hydrogenation activity. The results reveal that the Ni-Co composite catalysts form alloy structures, which exhibit a significant synergistic effect on the CO2 hydrogenation activity, CH4 selectivity, and stability.

Greenhouse gases utilization via catalytic reforming with Sc promoted Ni/SBA-15

Ahmed S. Al-Fatesh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the performance of supported Ni catalysts in the utilization of greenhouse gases like CO2 and CH4 via dry reforming. The results showed that the catalyst with 0.5% Sc loading led to the highest conversion and the lowest relative activity loss. The average methane and carbon dioxide conversions were 78% and 86%, respectively, at 750 degrees C. The catalyst demonstrated relatively constant methane and carbon dioxide conversions over 80 hours on stream.

Operando DRIFT and In situ Raman Spectroscopic Studies on Aspects of CO2 Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis Catalyzed by Bulk Iron Oxide-Based Catalysts

Jana Weiss et al.

Summary: Hematite can be used as a precursor for catalytically active iron (oxide) phases in CO2 Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The transformation from alpha-Fe2O3 to Fe3O4 is faster than further reduction to Fe (metallic iron) in a hydrogen atmosphere, with the rate depending on temperature. Surface formate species are formed at elevated temperatures in a CO2/H2 gas mixture, while exposure to CO2 and CO leads to surface carbonate-carboxylate species. Reduced samples with varying Fe3O4 and Fe contents did not show observable adsorbates under reaction conditions. Carbonaceous species, indicating carbidation, were observed for a catalyst with medium reduction degree.

Claudiu Rizescu et al.

Summary: M-MgAlO mixed oxide catalysts were prepared by controlled thermal decomposition of layered double hydroxides (LDH) precursors and tested in the hydrodeoxygenation of benzyl alcohol. Among them, Cu15MgAlO showed the best catalytic performance for alcohol conversion and selectivity to toluene.

Promotion of CO2 methanation at low temperature over hydrotalcite-derived catalysts-effect of the tunable metal species and basicity

Xinpeng Guo et al.

Summary: By regulating the metal composition, synergistic effects between metallic Ni and basic sites in hydrotalcite-derived catalysts were achieved to enhance low-temperature catalytic performance for CO2 methanation. The NiMgAl catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity with a 91.8% CO2 conversion at 250 degrees C, demonstrating the potential of ternary mixed oxides catalyst in achieving excellent catalytic properties at low temperatures.

Enhanced CO2 Hydrogenation to C2+ Hydrocarbons over Mesoporous x%Fe2O3-Al2O3 Catalysts

Francisco A. De la Rosa-Priego et al.

Summary: This study describes the preparation of mesoporous binary oxides using a one-step soft template sol-gel process, which were then used as catalysts in CO2 hydrogenation. The catalyst modified with 20% Fe2O3 showed the best performance in producing C2+ hydrocarbons. A higher Fe2O3 content resulted in a significant decrease in the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction and a linear correlation was found between the surface exposure of Fe-0 species and the yield of C2+ hydrocarbons.
