Revealing the activity origin of oxygen-doped amorphous carbon material for SO2 catalytic oxidation: A descriptor considering dynamic electron transfer during O2 activation

Zhibin Qu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the activity origin of oxygen-doped amorphous carbon catalysts through a combined computational and experimental approach. A site-specific descriptor considering dynamic electron transfer effect is proposed based on density functional theory calculations, which takes into account the influence of both oxygen groups and edges on catalytic activity. Experimental results confirm the favorable role of ether groups and edges in the catalytic oxidation of SO2. This work provides guidance for designing high-performance carbocatalysts considering size and edge effect.

Reducing ROS generation and accelerating the photocatalytic degradation rate of PPCPs at neutral pH by doping Fe-N-C to g-C3N4

Hankun Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a 1% Fe-N-C nanotube doped g-C3N4 was synthesized to reduce the biotoxicity and enhance the catalytic efficiency. The FeCNT@C3N4 not only effectively reduced ROS generation and had a low electron-hole pairs recombination rate, but also showed higher degradation rates for tetracycline hydrochloride and Naproxen compared to g-C3N4. Moreover, the FeCNT@C3N4 was proven to maintain its high catalytic property in surface water.

Xin Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-free e-Fenton system using O-doped carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) as the bifunctional metal-free cathode was designed for the degradation of organic pollutants. The system demonstrated excellent performance under neutral conditions, with a phenol degradation kinetic constant of 0.071 min-1 and a TOC removal rate of 76.6% within 300 min. This in-situ metal-free e-Fenton system shows promise as a strategy for actual wastewater treatment, with a specific energy consumption lower than reported heterogeneous electro-Fenton systems.
