Self-healing polyester networks prepared from poly(butylene succinate-co-butylene itaconate) and thiol-terminated polyether containing disulfide linkages

Warunya Ussama et al.

Summary: Crosslinked polyester films with self-healing properties driven by disulfide metathesis were prepared using 1-methylimidazole-mediated thermal thiol-ene reaction. The ratio of PBSI/LP-3 had an influence on the properties of the crosslinked films, with higher ratios leading to increased 5% weight loss temperature, glass transition temperature, and tensile strength. All crosslinked films exhibited healing properties when hot-pressed, with PBSI/LP-3 films showing higher tensile strength recovery.

Bio-based poly(butylene diglycolate-co-furandicarboxylate) copolyesters with balanced mechanical, barrier and biodegradable properties: A prospective substitute for PBAT

Yunxiao Dong et al.

Summary: Poly(butylene diglycolate-co-furandicarboxylate) (PBDF) copolyesters were synthesized and characterized in terms of their thermal, mechanical, permeable, and degradable properties. Among them, PBDF40 showed outstanding mechanical properties and barrier properties. Additionally, PBDFs exhibited accelerated rates of hydrolysis and composting degradation. These findings indicate the potential application of PBDFs, especially PBDF40, in food packaging.

Biodegradable Poly(butylene succinate) Copolyesters Modified by Bioresoured 2,5-Tetrahydrofurandimethanol

Chenhao Jin et al.

Summary: The problems of fossil-based resources and pollution caused by traditional nondegradable polymers have led to the need for biobased monomers and polyesters. In this study, 2,5-Tetrahydrofurandimethanol (THFDM) was introduced into polybutylene succinate (PBS) to improve its performance and sustainability. The results showed that the introduction of THFDM reduced the crystallization ability of PBTS, improving degradation rate and toughness while maintaining a relatively high gas barrier property.

Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate-co-butylene furandicarboxylate): Effect of butylene furandicarboxylate unit on thermal, mechanical, and ultraviolet shielding properties, and biodegradability

Xuedong Lv et al.

Summary: Biobased co-polyesters poly(butylene succinate-co-butylene furandicarboxylate) (PBSF) with high molecular weight and excellent thermal stability were prepared. These polymers exhibited semi-crystalline structure and high tensile strength, with elongation at break significantly higher than commercial poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and most biodegradable packaging materials. Increasing the BF unit content improved the UV shielding properties of the polyester materials. Moreover, PBSF showed a significantly faster biodegradation rate when the BF unit content was 5%. These bio-based polymers have great potential to be applied as environmentally friendly and sustainable plastic packaging.
