Oxygen vacancy modification of commercial ZnO by hydrogen reduction for the removal of thiabendazole: Characterization and kinetic study

Alireza Ranjbari et al.

Summary: The effect of temperature-programmed H2 reduction on modification of surface oxygen vacancies in commercial ZnO (C-ZnO) was investigated. The photocatalytic degradation of the fungicide thiabendazole was optimized by treating C-ZnO with 10% H2/Ar gas at 500 degrees C over 5 h. The formation of oxygen vacancies and their catalytic activity were compared before and after the reduction treatment based on their characterization analysis (e.g., TPR, FE-SEM, EDS, XPS, Tauc plot, XRD, and BET). Our most recent kinetic modeling was carried out on the experiments using C-ZnO and T500 at different pH values. The highest adsorption removal and photocatalytic degradation rate (and quantum yield) occurred at pH 3 and 11, respectively. Good reusability of the optimal reduced catalyst was confirmed when tested over five cycles. A strong compatibility between the kinetic modeling results and all characterization analyses supports the potent role of reduction treatment for the modification of oxygen vacancies on photocatalysis.

An efficient catalyst of CuPt/TiO2 for photocatalytic direct dehydrogenation of methanol to methyl formate at ambient temperature

Haifeng Zhang et al.

Summary: A new green route for photocatalytic direct dehydrogenation of methanol to methyl formate (MF) with high methanol conversion and high MF selectivity on CuPt/TiO2 at ambient temperature is reported. The CuPt alloy nanoparticles were formed on the surface of titania, forming a heterojunction that broke the thermodynamic restriction of thermal reactions. Platinum doping in the lattice of titania changed the band structure and enhanced charge transfer, leading to high methanol conversion and MF selectivity.

Zelin Xia et al.

Summary: Fe-doped TiO2 nanoparticles with pure anatase structure and spherical morphology were successfully synthesized through coprecipitation method. The crystallite size increased with the increase of calcination temperatures. Fe doping decreased the energy band gap (Eg) of TiO2, leading to enhanced photocatalytic performance. The maximum degradation efficiency of methyl orange (MO) reached 46.3% under visible light irradiation for Fe-doped TiO2 nanoparticles with a Fe doping concentration of 0.3 at.% and calcination temperature of 300?.

Effect of amination of titanium dioxide in the TiO2/rGO composite on the efficient photocatalytic removal of gaseous formaldehyde at room temperature

Kun Jiang et al.

Summary: A new strategy of aminating titanium dioxide and combining it with reduced graphene oxide was proposed for the preparation of an advanced photocatalyst with high efficiency in removing gaseous formaldehyde. The optimal catalyst demonstrated significantly improved catalytic activity and recyclability in formaldehyde photolysis compared to commercial TiO2. The enhanced performance was attributed to the formation of imine by chemisorption of amino and formaldehyde, as well as the introduction of graphene to enhance carrier separation efficiency. This strategy offers a useful method for highly efficient formaldehyde photocatalysis.
