Hydrolytic transformation mechanism of tetracycline antibiotics: Reaction kinetics, products identification and determination in WWTPs

Shao-Fen Zhong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hydrolytic transformation of four tetracycline antibiotics under different environmental conditions and identified their transformation products in wastewater treatment plants. The results showed that hydrolysis rates were influenced by environmental conditions and temperature, with some hydrolysis products exhibiting higher predicted toxicity than their parent compounds. These findings suggest that the hydrolysis products of tetracycline antibiotics should be included in environmental monitoring and risk assessment.

Multiple roles of dissolved organic matter released from decomposing rice straw at different times in organic pollutant photodegradation

Zhaogang Ren et al.

Summary: Returning rice straw releases a significant amount of dissolved organic matter (DOM) into aquatic croplands, impacting the photochemical behaviors of organic pollutants. The study found that the photosensitization of DOM towards DIU and E2 correlated with the production of PPRIs, while its influence on SMX photodegradation was opposite.

The C/N ratio and phenolic groups of exogenous dissolved organic matter together as an indicator for evaluating the stability of mineral-organic associations in red soil

Xiaojia Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of external dissolved organic matter (DOM) significantly increased the organic carbon content in red soil, as well as the combined humus and soil mineral-organic compound quantity. Rice straw-derived DOM had the strongest effect on improving the soil mineral-organic compound quantity/degree, while fulvic acid had the least impact. The elemental ratios and aromaticity of exogenous DOM played a significant role in the stability of MOAs.
