Controllable Synthesis of Carbon Yolk-Shell Microsphere and Application of Metal Compound-Carbon Yolk-Shell as Effective Anode Material for Alkali-Ion Batteries

Yeong Beom Kim et al.

Summary: Recently, nanostructured carbon materials with unique physical and chemical properties, such as hollow-, yolk-, and core-shell-configuration, have attracted attention for various applications. Yolk-shell structured carbon, in particular, is considered a promising energy storage material due to its fast electron transfer and abundant active reaction sites. However, the synthesis of controllable carbon yolk-shell structures has been a challenge. In this study, a novel synthesis strategy for nanostructured carbon yolk-shell microspheres with controlled morphology and size of the yolk part is proposed. Cobalt compounds-carbon yolk-shell composites are applied as anodes in alkali-ion batteries and exhibit superior electrochemical performances compared to core-shell structures, thanks to their unique structural merits.

Crystalline-amorphous interface of mesoporous Ni2P @ FePOxHy for oxygen evolution at high current density in alkaline-anion-exchange-membrane water-electrolyzer

Abhishek Meena et al.

Summary: Developing low-cost, efficient, and stable electrocatalysts are crucial for industrial high-purity hydrogen production. This study introduces an active pre-electrocatalyst that achieves high current density at low overpotential, meeting the commercial requirements for oxygen evolution reaction. Additionally, by combining with a non-noble metal-based HER catalyst, complete water-splitting is achieved in a highly corrosive alkaline environment, and an economically viable alkaline-anion-exchange-membrane water-electrolyzer is fabricated.
