Excellent adsorption performance and capacity of modified layered ITQ-2 zeolites for elemental mercury removal and recycling from flue gas

Yongpeng Ma et al.

Summary: Adsorption is an effective method for removing and recycling high concentration of mercury from nonferrous metal smelting flue gas, especially with adsorbents like Mn/ITQ-2 zeolite which have large specific surface area and good Hg-0 removal efficiency. The study also found that Co-Mn/ITQ-2 zeolites exhibit high SO2 resistance performance and excellent regenerability, making them a promising option for mercury recycling from flue gas.

Elevated Gaseous Oxidized Mercury Revealed by a Newly Developed Speciated Atmospheric Mercury Monitoring System

Yi Tang et al.

Summary: Monitoring gaseous oxidized mercury (Hg2+) accurately and with high time precision is a challenge in mercury research. Existing methods are not suitable for high-particulate environments. Researchers developed a new monitoring system, CSAMS, which combines a dual-stage cation exchange membrane (CEM) sampler with a commercial system and improves the accuracy of Hg2+ monitoring while also allowing measurement of Hg-0, Hg2+, and Hgp simultaneously.

Rational design of porous CexNb1-x oxide hollow nanospheres as a novel NH3-SCR catalyst

Hongjian Zhu et al.

Summary: The morphology and hierarchical structure of porous CexNb1-x (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 1) hollow nanospheres were successfully designed and investigated for their catalytic behaviors in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR). The strong interaction between Nb2O5 and CeO2 affected the physicochemical properties of the bimetal oxides, resulting in superior catalytic activity and stability for Ce0.4Nb0.6 nanospheres with porous double-shell structure. Furthermore, the NH3-SCR reaction on Ce0.4Nb0.6 oxide followed the Eley-Rideal mechanism. This work provides a strategy for the design and synthesis of materials with hollow and porous structures for various applications.

Manganese bridge of mercury and oxygen for elemental mercury capture from industrial flue gas in layered Mn/MCM-22 zeolite

Yongpeng Ma et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared modified layered MCM-22 zeolite with highly dispersed Mn active sites for efficient removal of gaseous elemental mercury (Hg-0). The mechanism of Hg-0 removal mainly involves catalytic oxidation and chemisorption on Mn active sites, with Mn playing a bridging role between Hg and O in the pores of Mn/MCM-22 zeolite. The promising Mn/MCM-22 zeolite composite demonstrates high potential as a sorbent for Hg-0 removal from flue gas.

The adsorption mechanisms of Hg0 on marcasite-type metal selenides: The influences of metal-terminated site

Hailong Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the immobilization mechanisms of elemental mercury on marcasite-type metal selenides based on density functional theory, finding that the adsorptions of Hg-0 at metal sites are mainly influenced by the 4p orbitals of metal atoms, while interactions at Se sites are affected by both the 5s and 4p orbitals of Se atoms. The influences of metal-terminated sites on Hg-0 adsorptions at Se sites are relatively limited.

Experimental and theoretical investigation of the enhancement of the photo-oxidation of Hg0 by CeO2-modified morphology-controlled anatase TiO2

Huazhen Shen et al.

Summary: This study found that CeO2 loading is beneficial for the photocatalytic activity of TiO2, increasing the distribution of photoinduced electrons and holes on the surface and enhancing the photocatalytic removal efficiency of 7%CeTi for Hg-0. The effect of CeO2 depends on its stability on the TiO2 crystal planes. Surface engineering strategies for morphology-controlled photocatalysts are crucial for air pollution control technology.

Summary: The study introduces a novel anion conducting membrane using QTP-HCP-NS for the first time, demonstrating improved ion conductivity and mechanical properties compared to traditional membranes. The composite AEMs exhibit lower dimensional swelling, higher tensile strength, and significantly enhanced ion conductivity, thanks to the unique properties of QTP-HCP-NS. However, aggregation and interfacial defects at high loadings of QTP-HCP-NS may lead to a reduction in ion conduction and mechanical strength.

Enhanced mercury removal performance of Cu-Fe binary oxide sorbents modified by non-thermal plasma

Wei Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic Cu-Fe binary oxide sorbents were modified by oxygen non-thermal plasma for efficient removal of elemental mercury from coal-fired flue gas. Plasma treatment improved the Fe3+, Cu2+, and lattice oxygen content in the sorbents, leading to higher Hg-0 removal efficiency. Both experimental results and kinetic model confirmed that chemisorption is the dominant factor for Hg-0 removal over the modified sorbents.
