Singlet oxygen driven enhanced photocatalytic degradation of 1,3,7-tri- methylpurine-2,6-dione using surfactant mediated PVA-CuO nanocomposites: Combining physical adsorption and photocatalysis

V. G. Dileep Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of surface modifiers on the catalytic properties and degradation efficiency of a polymeric matrix (CuO/PVA) using three different surfactants: cationic (CTAB), anionic (SLS), and non-ionic (T80). The results show that surface modification significantly enhances the degradation ability of the polymeric CuO, with CTAB-assisted CuO exhibiting a 29% higher degradation rate compared to its unmodified counterpart. The surface characteristics of the catalyst, including particle size, band gap, and morphology, also play a crucial role in the degradation process.

Photoelectrochemical properties and reactivity of supported titanium NTs for bacterial inactivation and organic pollutant removal

Khaled Trabelsi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of anodization time on the morphology, optical, and photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanotubes. The results show that the length of the nanotubes increases with longer anodization time. The optimized nanotubes demonstrate efficient bacterial inactivation and degradation of organic pollutants under low-intensity solar-simulated light.

Distinctive Effects of Surface Roughness and Ions Release on the Bacterial Adhesion and Inactivation of Textured Copper Oxide Surfaces

Akram Alhussein et al.

Summary: This manuscript investigates the impact of additive manufacturing pretreatment on bacterial adhesion and inactivation on copper-based interfaces. The surface roughness profile is found to influence bacterial adhesion in the dark, while bacterial inactivation is monitored under indoor light. The thin copper films' composition and antibacterial activities are optimized, and the crystallographic structure is analyzed.

High adsorption and photocatalytic degradation abilities of amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres under simulated solar light irradiation

Haitao Fu et al.

Summary: Crystallized and amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres were successfully synthesized using a simple alcohol-thermal reaction method. By adjusting the PVP amount in the synthesis system, the particle sizes of amorphous Ta2O5 nanospheres were controlled. It was found that the amorphous Ta2O5 5PVP exhibited excellent adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performances towards methylene blue, due to its high specific surface area, extra O vacancies, enhanced visible light absorption, more photo-generated electrons and low charge transfer resistance.

Effect of Oxygen Content on the Properties of Sputtered TaOx Electrolyte Film in All-Solid-State Electrochromic Devices

Jiuyong Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the performance of tantalum oxide (TaOx) thin films in all-solid-state electrochromic devices (ECDs) and the influence of their chemical composition and microstructure on the performance. The results showed that a higher oxygen flux resulted in a stronger ion transport ability and lower electronic conductivity of TaOx. An all-solid-state ECD with a multilayer structure was fabricated by magnetron sputtering, and it exhibited excellent optical modulation, coloring efficiency, response speed, and cycle stability.

One-step synthesis of oxygen-defects modified Ta2O5 nanosheets with high photocatalytic performance by chemical vapor deposition method

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, novel hexagonal Ta2O5 nanosheets with oxygen defects were synthesized in a single step using chemical vapor deposition, showing excellent photocatalytic degradation capacity. Oxygen defects were found to promote the separation of photogenerated carriers in Ta2O5 nanosheets. Singlet oxygen was identified as the main active species contributing to the high-efficiency degradation of RhB under the combined action of other active species.
