X-ray diffraction analysis by Rietveld refinement of FeAl alloys doped with terbium and its correlation with magnetostriction

J. S. Uribe-Chavira et al.

Summary: Fe81Al19 polycrystalline alloys doped with Tb (0-0.25 at%) were prepared by arc melting. The introduction of Tb promotes the formation of columnar grains in the alloys, resulting in a texture in the [100] crystal direction. The microstructure of the alloys consists mainly of disordered body-centered cubic (bcc), A2 phase, and a small proportion of ordered bcc, B2 phase. Doping with Tb leads to an increase in lattice parameter, apparent crystallite size, and total magnetostriction, with the maximum enhancement observed in the alloy containing 0.027 at% Tb.

Electron density distribution and microstructural spherical harmonic calculation of BaTiO3 powders and ceramics

J. S. Uribe-Chavira et al.

Summary: In this study, BaTiO3 ferroelectric powders were milled and sintered using plasma spark sintering. The milling process increased the weight fraction of the tetragonal phase and decreased the orthorhombic phase, resulting in an increase in lattice parameters. The Ti-O bond lengths increased with the Ti-polyhedral volume, due to enhanced microstrains and reduced crystallite size. The sintered ceramics showed opposite behavior in structural and microstructural parameters compared to the powders, potentially improving their piezoelectric properties.

Synthesis of zinc oxide nanoplates and their use for hydrogen sulfide adsorption

Brent R. Dearden et al.

Summary: A synthetic procedure for the formation of zinc oxide nanoplates with specific dimensions was presented. These nanoplates showed superior sorption capacity for hydrogen sulfide compared to nanoparticles and prisms. Various characterization techniques confirmed the successful sulfurization of the nanoplates, reaching 80% of the theoretical maximum capacity.

Construction of Ag-decorated ZnO with oxygen vacancies for enhanced antibacterial activity via increased H2O2 production

Qiong Liu et al.

Summary: Ag-decorated ZnO nanorods demonstrated enhanced antibacterial effects on drug-resistant bacteria and low cytotoxicity to cells. The formation of oxygen vacancies in ZnO after the decoration of AgNPs contributed to increased production of H2O2, leading to membrane leakage and inactivation of respiratory chain in bacteria.

Morphologic design of nanostructures for enhanced antimicrobial activity

Fatma Al-Zahraa Sayed et al.

Summary: The morphology design of nanoparticles plays a crucial role in optimizing antimicrobial activity, considering factors such as bacteria shape, invasion mechanisms, and interactions with host cells. Some studies suggest spherical shapes exhibit improved antimicrobial activity compared to non-spherical structures, while others report higher activity for non-spherical forms (e.g., rod, discoid).
