Stimulated Raman scattering induced dark pulse and microcomb generation in the mid-infrared

Mulong Liu et al.

Summary: We demonstrated that strong stimulated Raman scattering in silicon and germanium microresonators can generate stable and breathing dark pulses, bypassing traditional complex approaches. Multi-photon absorption and free carriers assist in dark pulse excitation. Additionally, distinct dark breather dynamics were observed in Si and Ge, different from dark soliton breathers dominated solely by Kerr effect. High-order dispersion engineering can generate octave spanning mid-infrared microcombs, impacting the breathing dynamics of dark pulses.

Traveling pulses with oscillatory tails, figure-eight-like stack of isolas, and in media

Yasumasa Nishiura et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between 1D traveling pulses with oscillatory tails (TPOs) and heterogeneities of the bump type. A generalized three-component FitzHugh-Nagumo system of equations is formulated. The findings show the formation of snaky structures and figure-eight-like stacks of isolas for stationary pulses with oscillatory tails (SPOs) and TPO branches, respectively. Nonlocal interaction is observed in the heterogeneous problem, resulting in saddle solutions and stable stationary solutions. The dynamics of TPO exhibit processes of pinning, depinning, penetration, and rebound. The behavior after collision in 1D space is difficult to predict due to the complex interaction between the stable/unstable manifolds of the saddles and TPO.

Raman pure quartic solitons in Kerr microresonators

Kewei Liu et al.

Summary: Investigation of the characteristics and dynamics of pure quartic solitons (PQSs) in the presence of the Raman effect reveals an intermediate stable state in the parameter space, which has not been discovered in other soliton regimes. Stabilty analysis is performed to study the spatial dynamics in the context of the Raman PQS.

Dynamics of dark breathers and Raman-Kerr frequency combs influenced by high-order dispersion

Mulong Liu et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the generation of dark breathers and Raman-Kerr microcombs in silicon microresonators, influenced by stimulated Raman scattering and high-order dispersion effects. The results show that Raman gain exhibits a threshold behavior, while breathing dark pulses are mainly dependent on the amplitude and sign of the third-order dispersion coefficient. Additionally, the demonstration of octave-spanning mid-infrared frequency combs via Cherenkov radiation suggests a viable way to investigate physics within dark pulses and broadband MIR microcombs.

Origin, bifurcation structure and stability of localized states in Kerr dispersive optical cavities

P. Parra-Rivas et al.

Summary: Localized coherent structures can form in externally driven dispersive optical cavities with a Kerr-type non-linearity, described by the Lugiato-Lefever (LL) equation. The formation, stability, and bifurcation structure of these structures are reviewed, focusing on anomalous and normal second-order dispersion regimes. Different bifurcation structures are observed in each regime, with effects of third-order dispersion and various dynamical regimes also discussed.

Coexistence of dark vector soliton Kerr combs in normal dispersion resonators

B. Kostet et al.

Summary: Investigated the formation of dark vector dissipative solitons in optical resonators with nonlinear polarization mode coupling, attributing the stabilization of dark solitons to a front locking mechanism in the bistable regime. Showed that two branches of dark dissipative solitons can coexist for fixed system parameters with different polarization states and peak powers. The coexistence of two vectorial branches of dark localized states is not possible without considering polarization degrees of freedom.

Dissipative soliton interaction in Kerr resonators with high-order dispersion

A. G. Vladimirov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interaction of dissipative solitons in an optical resonator with a photonic crystal fiber, using a generalized Lugiato-Lefever equation with fourth-order dispersion. The results show that positive fourth-order dispersion leads to increased interaction force between solitons and stabilizes multiple equidistant soliton bound states in the phase space. Additionally, spectral filtering, even at a small level, can reduce Cherenkov radiation at the soliton tails, weaken the interaction strength, and impact the stability of bound states.

Vectorial dark dissipative solitons in Kerr resonators

B. Kostet et al.

Summary: We report the existence of vectorial dark dissipative solitons in optical cavities under the influence of a coherently injected beam. We show that the vectorial front locking mechanism can stabilize these structures, which differ in their temporal duration and polarization state. By constructing a heteroclinic snaking bifurcation diagram, we demonstrate evidence of multistability within a finite range of the control parameter.

Influence of stimulated Raman scattering on Kerr domain walls and localized structures

P. Parra-Rivas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation of bright and dark localized states in all-fiber resonators subject to stimulated Raman scattering under coherent optical injection. The Raman scattering breaks the reflection symmetry of the system and modifies the dynamics, stability, and locking of domain walls. This leads to the formation of both dark and bright moving localized states that are otherwise absent.
