Test and characterization of reversible solid oxide cells and stacks for innovative renewable energy storage

Anne Hauch et al.

Summary: This study aims to develop a renewable energy storage solution based on reversible solid oxide cell (rSOC) technology. The research conducted single cell tests and stack tests to investigate the operational performance and degradation of cells in both oxidation and reduction modes under high degrees of utilization. The results showed that the degradation of cells decreased during long-term reversible operation, with the stack tests demonstrating the feasibility of reversible mode operation for thousands of hours.

Summary: This study successfully upscales the electrophoretic deposition technique to real-size metallic interconnects, demonstrating the significant influence of two-step sintering on coating performance. In long-term and stack tests, electrophoretically deposited Mn-Co spinel showed effectiveness in reducing oxide scale growth on Crofer 22 APU.
