Ultrasonic-assisted synthesis of α-Fe2O3@TiO2 photocatalyst: Optimization of effective factors in the fabrication of photocatalyst and removal of non-biodegradable cefixime via response surface methodology-central composite design

Summary: Environmental pollution is a global issue that threatens the entire biosphere. Visible-light photocatalysis technology is an effective approach to wastewater treatment. A highly efficient alpha-Fe2O3@TiO2 nanocomposite was synthesized using a rapid sonochemical technique and a conventional wet impregnation route for the elimination of cefixime. The influences of operational parameters and ultrasonic waves on the efficiency, dimension, and structure of the photocatalyst were investigated.

Synthesis of recyclable SERS platform based on MoS2@TiO2@Au heterojunction for photodegradation and identification of fungicides

Summary: In this study, a heterojunction platform based on molybdenum disulfide coated titanium dioxide modified with gold nanoparticles was fabricated for the efficient determination of fungicides. Silver-photodeposited TiO2-clay nanocomposite: sol-gel synthesis, characterization and CCD-optimized photocatalytic activity

Summary: TiO2-clay nanocomposites were synthesized by the sol-gel route and their photocatalytic properties were investigated. The results showed that the nanocomposite exhibited higher photocatalytic activity for phenol degradation compared to commercial TiO2 P25. Photodeposition of silver onto the nanocomposite greatly enhanced the phenol degradation efficiency. The optimization of experimental parameters using the response surface methodology achieved high degradation and mineralization efficiencies under UV irradiation. Pyrophyllite clay was found to be a promising and low-cost mineral for efficient photocatalysts.

Optimization of toxic metal adsorption on DEA-calix[4]arene appended silica resin using a central composite design

Summary: This study successfully purified water contaminated with toxic metal ions using a p-tert-diethanolaminomethylcalix[4]arene (DEA-C4) based silica resin and Central Composite Design (CCD). The optimized conditions significantly improved the adsorption rate of various metal ions. Furthermore, the synthesized material showed favorable adsorption isotherms and kinetics, as well as spontaneous and exothermic thermodynamic properties.

The reduction of Cr(VI) in different samples, such as synthetic water, drinking water, and electroplating wastewater, was successful with high efficiency.

In situ phase evolution of TiO2/Ti3C2Tx heterojunction for enhancing adsorption and photocatalytic degradation

Summary: In this study, natural core-shell structure activated carbon beads (ACBs) from Litsea glutinosa seeds were successfully produced for adsorption of methylene blue (MB). The ACBs displayed highly porous natural core-shell spheres and showed a maximum adsorption capacity of 29.03 mg/g at optimal conditions. The primary contributions to the adsorption mechanism were identified as electrostatic attraction, pi-pi interaction, hydrogen bonding, and pore-filling.

Photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline under visible light using TiO2@sulfur doped carbon nitride nanocomposite synthesized via in-situ method

Summary: This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of a TiO2 nanoparticles assembled sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (SCN) nanocomposite, which exhibits higher photocatalytic activity towards tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light. The nanocomposite catalyst shows good stability and reusability for five consecutive photocatalytic degradation experiments, attributed to effective charge separation and less recombination of electron and hole pairs. Further optimization of catalyst weight, pH, and TC concentration were discussed, along with radical scavenger studies confirming the role of electrons and superoxide radicals in the photo-degradation of TC.
