Effect of impregnated phenolic resin on the properties of Si-SiC ceramic matrix composites fabricated by SLS-RMI

Wei-Jian Wu et al.

Summary: Selective laser sintering (SLS) combined with reaction melt infiltration was used to fabricate Si-SiC ceramic matrix composites. The impregnation with phenolic resin (PF) improved the density, reduced the porosity, and enhanced the mechanical properties of the samples. The concentration of PF had an effect on the phases and content of SiC and Si in the composites. Precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) treatment greatly improved the macroscopic properties of the samples. The formation of beta-SiC grains inside the specimen was achieved through a reaction bonded process.

Thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of Si3N4 ceramics with binary fluoride sintering additives

Shengjun Liao et al.

Summary: In this study, silicon nitride ceramics were fabricated using different sintering additives, with samples doped with binary fluorides showing superior thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. The addition of YF3 reduced the grain growth exponent and activation energy, leading to improved properties in the Si3N4 ceramics.

Electromagnetic wave-transparent porous silicon nitride ceramic prepared by gel-casting combined with in-situ nitridation reaction

Conglin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a specific microstructure of porous silicon nitride was achieved through liquid-phase sintering and in-situ nitridation of Si. A novel formulation was developed to produce chemically-stable slurry, and key structural parameters were adjusted to enhance the performance of the ceramics.
