Comparison of filtration efficiency and respiratory resistance of COVID-19 protective masks by multi-national standards

Wenxia Wang et al.

Summary: Different types of face masks were evaluated based on multiple international standards, with folding masks showing the highest particulate filtration efficiency and cup masks having the highest respiratory resistance. Generally, masks are more likely to meet the criteria of the EN149-2001+A1:2009 standard in terms of PFE, while meeting the requirements of the GB2626-2019 and NIOSH 42 CFR Part84-2019 standards for respiratory resistance is easier.

Metallic coloration with Cu/CuO coating on polypropylene nonwoven fabric via a physical vapor deposition method and its multifunctional properties

Mei-Lin Huang et al.

Summary: A single-layer film of copper and/or copper oxide was deposited on a polypropylene nonwoven fabric substrate to prepare multifunctional textiles with a metallic color appearance. The color lightened as the Cu content decreased and transitioned into CuO, while the UV protection performance decreased with increasing oxygen flow rate and decreasing film thickness. The hydrophobicity increased slightly with the copper oxide film-coated samples, and electrostatic elimination ability decreased due to the conversion of elemental Cu to Cu2O and CuO.

Quality and Quantity Assessment of the Water Repellent Properties of Functional Clothing Materials after Washing

Mateusz Kowalski et al.

Summary: This research aimed to evaluate the changes in surface properties of functional clothing materials with water-repellent finishes after washing. The results showed significant changes in the properties, depending on the material composition, structure, and type of finish. The PFC-free finish was found to be the least resistant to washing, and increasing washing frequency led to a gradual decrease in water repellency.
