Cellulose nanofiber-reinforced solid polymer electrolytes with high ionic conductivity for lithium batteries

Cristina Prado-Martinez et al.

Summary: Replacing liquid electrolytes with solid polymer electrolytes in lithium-based batteries can inhibit dendritic growth, but it often compromises the efficiency of lithium-ion transport. This study introduces a composite solid polymer electrolyte that combines a soft copolymer with high ionic conductivity and cellulose nanofibers, which enhances the hardness without sacrificing the ionic conductivity. The composite electrolyte demonstrates good cycling ability and electrochemical stability, showing great potential for application in lithium metal batteries.

Structural, rheological, and mechanical properties of polyvinyl alcohol composites reinforced with cellulose nanofiber treated by ultrahigh-pressure homogenizer

Tsubasa Ueda et al.

Summary: Cellulose nanofibers (CNF) were prepared by nanoisolation using an ultrahigh-pressure homogenizer (UHPH). The effect of UHPH on CNF defibrillation and structure was investigated. A CNF-reinforced poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite was fabricated, and the influence of CNF on morphology, structure, rheology, and mechanical performance was studied. Results showed that UHPH treatment reduced fiber diameter and improved relative crystallinity. The defibrillated CNF with high crystallinity significantly enhanced the mechanical performance of the composite.

Evaluation of hydrophilic cellulose nanofiber dispersions in a hydrophobic isotactic polypropylene composite

Akitoshi Morita et al.

Summary: An effective approach using scattering and microscopic techniques was presented to evaluate the dispersion of hydrophilic cellulose nanofibers in hydrophobic isotactic polypropylene. Characterization of iPP composites reinforced with CNF fibrous fillers showed that the best dispersion results in the molten state coincided with low concentrations of CNFs. This study also observed the effect of CNFs on the acceleration of iPP crystal growth and the morphology around CNF fibrous fillers using different techniques such as wide-angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy.

Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate loaded in dissolving stiff microneedles containing cellulose nanofiber

Jin Ah Kim et al.

Summary: Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP) was loaded into dissolving microneedles for effective dermal delivery. The stiffness of the needles changed with the MAP content, but remained sufficient for skin penetration. The cumulative amount of MAP permeated through the skin was proportional to the MAP content in the microneedle matrix.
