The emerging roles of CFIm25 (NUDT21/CPSF5) in human biology and disease

Chioniso Patience Masamha

Summary: The mammalian cleavage factor I subunit CFIm25 is involved in multiple RNA processing events, including the formation of polyadenylated transcripts and the generation of circular RNAs. CFIm25 plays a role in regulating alternative splicing and alternative polyadenylation, which have implications in human physiology and disease. Alterations in CFIm25-driven changes in 3' UTR-APA may contribute to neural dysfunction and fibrosis. CFIm25 levels could be modulated as a potential therapeutic approach.

Summary: Chronic liver injury results in liver inflammation and fibrosis, which can be reversed by eliminating activated myofibroblasts and resorbing the fibrous scar. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying liver fibrosis and its reversibility can lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets for liver fibrosis treatment.
