Adsorption and interaction studies of methylene blue dye onto agar-carboxymethylcellulose-silver nanocomposite in aqueous media

Sahar Mostafa et al.

Summary: In this study, Agar-carboxymethylcellulose-silver nanoparticle (AG-CMC-AgNP) nanocomposite was successfully fabricated and characterized. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye onto AG-CMC-AgNP was investigated, and the results showed that AG-CMC-AgNP had a high adsorption capacity and good adsorption performance for MB. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order reaction kinetic model. The biosorbent was found to be reusable, although the adsorption capacity slightly decreased after multiple cycles.

Iftkhar Ahmad et al.

Summary: This work successfully functionalizes L-proline on the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) via a simple hydrothermal method, and further attaches Cu2+/Cu-0 nanoparticles onto the surface of SPION@L-proline by an in-situ deposition method. The developed nano-photocatalyst is characterized in detail, confirming its structure and performance. The Cu-0-based magnetic nano-photocatalyst shows slightly enhanced catalytic activity and demonstrates efficient photocatalytic degradation of dyes under solar irradiation. The superparamagnetic properties enable easy separation and recyclability of the nano-photocatalyst. The Cu2+/Cu-0-based magnetic nano-photocatalyst has potential applications in wastewater treatment due to its high photocatalytic efficiency, cost-effectiveness, magnetic separation performance, non-toxicity, and thermal and chemical stabilities.

Influence of polysaccharides with different chemical character on stability of montmorillonite suspensions in the presence of pseudoamphoteric cocamidopropyl betaine

E. Godek et al.

Summary: In this study, mixtures of cationic starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, and guar gum with the pseudoamphoteric surfactant cocamidopropyl betaine were used as stabilizers for aqueous suspensions of montmorillonite clay minerals. The mechanism of stabilization was estimated using the spectrophotometric method, and surface tension measurements were performed to investigate the interactions between the polymers and the surfactant. The results showed that the chosen polysaccharides could successfully stabilize the clay mineral suspensions, with the best stability achieved at low concentrations of polysaccharides and surfactant.
