Sex-based treatment and outcomes for coronary bifurcation stenting: A report from the e-ULTIMASTER registry

Gemina Doolub et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether there are differences between women and men in strategy and outcomes of bifurcation PCI. The results showed that women and men had similar stent strategy choices and treatment outcomes at 1-year follow-up, regardless of the type of bifurcation lesions.

Gender-related differences in clinical outcomes after either single or double left main bifurcation stenting

Gianluca Rigatelli et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of gender differences on clinical outcomes in the treatment of coronary unprotected LM bifurcation lesions. The study found that gender did not affect treatment outcomes in patients with ULM bifurcation disease treated with either single or double stenting techniques.

Gender-based outcomes of coronary bifurcation stenting: A report from the National Readmission Database

Mohammed Osman et al.

Summary: This study found that among patients who underwent PCI for CBLs in the setting of ACS, women had higher rates of in-hospital major adverse events and 30-day readmission compared to men, mainly due to higher rates of post-procedural bleeding and need for blood transfusion.

Impact of sex on outcomes of bifurcation lesion percutaneous coronary intervention: results from a single-centre prospective registry

Nili Schamroth Pravda et al.

Summary: Coronary bifurcation lesions present greater challenges than nonbifurcation lesions. Sex-related differences in diagnostic and invasive therapeutic procedures have been reported. Women undergoing bifurcation PCI tend to be older, have more comorbidities, and show similar short-term outcomes but poorer long-term outcomes compared to men.

Sex differences in treatment and outcomes of patients with in-hospital ST-elevation myocardial infarction

Julia Stehli et al.

Summary: In patients with in-hospital STEMIs, females were older and experienced longer symptom-to-device times compared to males, but there were no significant differences in 12-month mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events. Despite a higher proportion of females experiencing in-hospital STEMIs, gender was not independently associated with 12-month mortality in this group.

Sex Differences in Management and Outcomes of Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients Presenting With Cardiogenic Shock

Islam Y. Elgendy et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in risk profile, management, and outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) based on sex. The study found that women with AMI-CS were older, had more comorbidities, and worse renal function at presentation compared to men. Women were less likely to receive guideline-recommended care, such as revascularization and mechanical circulatory support. They also had higher risks of in-hospital mortality and major bleeding. However, at the one-year mark, there was no difference in the risk of mortality between women and men.
