Chlorella pyrenoidosa Polysaccharides as a Prebiotic to Modulate Gut Microbiota: Physicochemical Properties and Fermentation Characteristics In Vitro

Kunling Lv et al.

Summary: This study investigates the prebiotic potential of Chlorella pyrenoidosa polysaccharides. It is found that these polysaccharides cannot be degraded under saliva and gastrointestinal conditions but can be fermented in the gut, leading to modulation of gut microbiota and promoting intestinal health. Chlorella pyrenoidosa polysaccharides show different fermentation characteristics compared to conventional prebiotics and may be a new prebiotic for improving human health.

Deaminative-cleaved S. monotuberculatus fucosylated glycosaminoglycan: Structural elucidation and anticoagulant activity

Qingxia Yuan et al.

Summary: The tropical sea cucumber Stichopus monotuberculatus exhibits strong anticoagulant activity by selectively inhibiting intrinsic tenase complex. The anticoagulant activity decreases with the decrease of molecular weight, while the unusual branch and novel reducing end may enhance anticoagulant activity.

Structural Characterization and Heparanase Inhibitory Activity of Fucosylated Glycosaminoglycan from Holothuria floridana

Xiang Shi et al.

Summary: This study isolated and characterized a unique fucosylated glycosaminoglycan (FG) from a species of sea cucumber, revealing its composition, structure, and heparanase inhibitory activities. The low molecular weight FG obtained through depolymerization showed potential as an inhibitor of heparanase, with the inhibitory activities increasing with molecular weight. Structural characteristics such as sulfation patterns and the presence of fucosyl branches were identified as important factors affecting the inhibitory activity of heparanase.
