Ambient air pollution exposure and telomere length: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Z. -q. Zong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between air pollution exposure during pre-and post-birth and adulthood with telomere length. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted using data from 18 studies. The results showed moderate evidence that prenatal PM2.5 and NO2 exposures were related to shortened telomere length. However, other exposures such as prenatal SO2 and CO, childhood PM2.5, PM10, and NO2, as well as short-term adulthood PM2.5 and PM10 exposures were not associated with telomere length. High-quality studies are needed for further investigation.

MicroRNA-32 Suppression: its Effects on Prostate Cancer Cells' Capability to Proliferate and Migrate

Farah A. Al-Marzook et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of microRNA-32 (miR-32) in the growth, migration, and expression of metastatic genes in PC3 cells of prostate cancer in vitro. Transfection of PC3 cells with miR-32 mimics and inhibitor was performed, and cell proliferation, apoptosis, and the expression of metastatic and angiogenesis genes were measured. The results showed that miR-32 was overexpressed in PC3 cells and its down-regulation inhibited cell proliferation and migration while enhancing apoptosis. In addition, miR-32 negatively regulated the expression of VEGF and MMP2 in PC3 cells.

MiRNAs in Hematopoiesis and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Diana Karen Mendiola-Soto et al.

Summary: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common pediatric cancer, and although cure rates have increased, a significant number of patients still relapse. The role of microRNAs (miRNAs) as non-coding RNA genes in ALL has gained interest in terms of understanding the disease's molecular mechanisms and identifying clinical biomarkers. Consistent findings suggest that miRNAs can be useful in distinguishing between different types of leukemia and predicting chemotherapy response. However, there is limited research on the molecular interplay between miRNAs and their targeted genes. This review aims to discuss the various ways miRNAs could be involved in ALL and their clinical implications.
