Tracking spatial regimes as an early warning for a species of conservation concern

Caleb P. Roberts et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers used advanced geospatial vegetation data to map and track spatial regimes to provide earlier warnings of habitat loss for species. Results showed that changes in grassland and woodland spatial regime boundaries can serve as a spatially explicit early warning signal for habitat loss, helping with biodiversity conservation efforts.

Cross-seasonal effects in the American Woodcock: Conditions prior to fall migration relate to migration strategy and implications for conservation

Clayton L. Graham et al.

Summary: This study assessed the influence of postbreeding habitat quality on the departure body composition and fall migration patterns of American Woodcock. The results showed that Woodcock that overwintered near breeding areas had less fat and used lower quality habitat in the fall. Furthermore, Woodcock that departed earlier were long-distance migrants that had inhabited higher quality landscapes prior to migration.
