Tetrakis(methylene)benzobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (TMBO) was utilized as a novel synthon for the synthesis of triptycene derivatives. Co-catalyzed double [4+2] cycloaddition of arylacetylene and TMBO led to the formation of diaryl-substituted meso and chiral triptycenes. The obtained chiral molecules exhibited circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) as elucidated by theoretical calculations.
