Ground motion prediction equations for significant duration using the KiK-net database

Mahdi Bahrampouri et al.

Summary: Significant duration of strong shaking is a crucial factor in geotechnical and structural engineering. This study develops predictive equations for significant duration applicable to interface and intraslab subduction earthquakes and shallow crustal earthquakes in active tectonic regimes. The research indicates that the duration of ground motions from subduction earthquakes is longer than those from shallow crustal earthquakes with similar magnitudes and distances.

Strong-motion duration predictive models from subduction interface earthquakes recorded in the hill zone of the Valley of Mexico

Alheli S. Lopez-Castaneda et al.

Summary: Ground-motion duration significantly impacts damage to conventional civil structures, especially in Mexico City where heterogeneous local site conditions amplify soil response to distant subduction earthquakes. This study proposes predictive models based on a reliable earthquake database, developed using a mixed-effects approach that considers correlation between recorded data. These models have valuable applications in seismic and structural engineering for accurately defining the dimension and randomness of strong-motion duration.

A Ground-Motion Prediction Equation for the Western and the Southwestern Parts of China Based on Local Strong-Motion Records and an Overseas Reference Model for the Vertical Component

Summary: This study presents a ground-motion prediction equation for vertical ground motions in the western and southwestern parts of China, using a Japanese model as reference. The study found that the magnitude-scaling rates in the SWC dataset are larger, and there are differences in attenuation rates and standard deviations.

Ground-Motion Duration Prediction Model from Recorded Mexican Interplate and Intermediate-Depth Intraslab Earthquakes

Miguel A. Jaimes et al.

Summary: Predictive models for ground-motion duration of Mexican subduction interplate and intermediate-depth intraslab earthquakes are proposed, considering factors such as magnitude, distance, and focal depth. The models are based on significant durations for different ranges of Arias intensity and validated using a large dataset of seismic records from both types of earthquakes.
