Age comparison of changes in local warm and cold sensitivity due to whole body cooling

Nicole A. Coull et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of whole body cooling on local thermal sensitivity to warm and cold stimuli. The results showed that whole body cooling reduced local cold sensitivity but did not affect warm sensitivity. There was also an age-related decline in sensitivity to warm stimuli. These findings highlight the potential thermoregulatory risks associated with aging.

Summary: This study found that cooling the breathing zone and chest/back can significantly improve work performance at an air temperature of 32 degrees C. Combining the two cooling systems further enhances thermal comfort and work performance, while also significantly reducing physiological parameters.
