Non-canonical STAT3 function reduces REDD1 transcription

Nadine Koehler et al.

Summary: STAT3 is a transcription factor that can both activate and repress gene expression. In this study, the researchers investigated the molecular mechanisms involved in STAT3-dependent gene repression. They found that STAT3 decreases the expression of REDD1, an mTOR inhibitor, by reducing its mRNA transcription. The researchers also identified the specific domains of STAT3 responsible for this reduction in REDD1 expression.

Managing the immune microenvironment of osteosarcoma: the outlook for osteosarcoma treatment

Hailong Tian et al.

Summary: Osteosarcoma, the most common primary bone cancer in adolescents, has a poor survival rate after metastasis. Existing therapeutic strategies are insufficient, and immunotherapy has shown advantages in inhibiting metastasis. Managing the immune microenvironment in osteosarcoma can provide valuable insights into the disease's heterogeneity and progression. Nanomedicine offers advanced platforms for enhanced osteosarcoma immunotherapy. This review discusses the classification, characteristics, and functions of the immune microenvironment in osteosarcoma, as well as the application, progress, and prospects of osteosarcoma immunotherapy.

Molecular Mechanisms of Sanguinarine in Cancer Prevention and Treatment

Asmat Ullah et al.

Summary: Historically, natural plant-derived drugs have played an important role in treating human-related diseases. Sanguinarine (SANG), a naturally isolated plant alkaloidal agent, has been found to impede tumor metastasis and development by disrupting various cell signaling pathways. However, its low chemical stability and poor oral bioavailability need to be addressed. The utilization of nano-technologies provides an exciting approach to improve the efficacy of SANG in cancer treatment. SANG has also shown the ability to regulate cancer-specific miRNA expression, but the mechanism remains unclear.

Natural compound library screening identifies Sanguinarine chloride for the treatment of SCLC by upregulating CDKN1A

Mingtian Zhong et al.

Summary: This study identified Sanguinarine chloride as a potential inhibitor of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) by upregulating the expression of CDKN1A. Sanguinarine chloride showed antitumor effects by inhibiting cell proliferation, colony formation, cell cycle, migration and invasion, and promoting apoptosis of SCLC cells. When combined with chemotherapy agents, Sanguinarine chloride exhibited synergistic effects against SCLC.

Apoptin mediates mitophagy and endogenous apoptosis by regulating the level of ROS in hepatocellular carcinoma

Yiquan Li et al.

Summary: The study found that Apoptin can significantly increase apoptosis and autophagy in liver cancer cells, and induce mitophagy through the increase of NIX protein expression. Apoptin treatment also leads to a significant increase in cellular ROS levels, which are involved in apoptosis and autophagy of liver cancer cells. The increase in ROS levels may be a key factor causing apoptosis and autophagy.

Identification of SSBP1 as a prognostic marker in human lung adenocarcinoma using bioinformatics approaches

Jian Huang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the expression of SSBP1 and its prognostic value in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) using bioinformatics approaches. The results showed that high SSBP1 expression was independently associated with poor overall survival and correlated with clinicopathological features in LUAD. Functional enrichment analysis suggested that SSBP1 is involved in ribosomal large subunit biogenesis and the proteasome pathway. Additionally, patients with SSBP1 alterations had worse prognosis compared to those without alterations. Furthermore, SSBP1 expression was negatively correlated with B cell infiltration level and the expression of B cell biomarkers.

Summary: This study identified an upregulated circRNA signature in cervical cancer tissues, with circZFR being significantly overexpressed and promoting cell proliferation, invasion, and tumor growth. Functional experiments revealed circZFR's interaction with SSBP1, leading to the assembly of CDK2/cyclin E1 complexes and activation of cell cycle progression and proliferation. These findings suggest circZFR as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for cervical cancer patients.
