X-Linked Retinoschisis Novel Clinical Observations and Genetic Spectrum in 340 Patients

Leo C. Hahn et al.

Summary: This study found large variabilities in the phenotype and natural course of X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS), with most patients showing a slow deterioration starting in the second decade of life. The integrity of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) and the photoreceptor outer segment (PROS) length on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) may be important in selecting optimal candidates for treatment and as potential structural endpoints in future therapeutic studies. No clear genotype-phenotype correlation was found.

X-Linked Retinoschisis Deep Phenotyping and Genetic Characterization

Michalis Georgiou et al.

Summary: This study examines the genetic and clinical features of X-linked retinoschisis (XLRS). The findings reveal a high phenotypic variability in XLRS, with relative preservation of the fovea and best-corrected visual acuity until late adulthood. However, the disease course is slow-progressing, posing challenges for early intervention and therapeutic trials.

ISCEV Standard for full-field clinical electroretinography (2022 update)

Anthony G. Robson et al.

Summary: This document presents an updated and revised ISCEV Standard for clinical electroretinogram (ERG) testing. It specifies minimum protocols for ERG stimuli, recording methods, and reporting to ensure consistency and facilitate diagnosis, monitoring, and inter-laboratory comparisons. The main changes include allowing ERGs to meet the Standard without mydriasis and providing more detail on analyzing oscillatory potentials (OPs).

KCNV2-Associated Retinopathy: Genetics, Electrophysiology, and Clinical Course-KCNV2 Study Group Report 1

Michalis Georgiou et al.

Summary: Through a study of genetics, electrophysiology, and clinical course in 117 patients, KCNV2-associated retinopathy was found to have early onset, leading to decreased visual acuity and various other symptoms. Full-field ERGs are crucial for diagnosis of the disease, patients require long-term follow-up, and further trials of novel therapeutics are needed.

KCNV2-Associated Retinopathy: Detailed Retinal Phenotype and Structural Endpoints-KCNV2 Study Group Report 2

Michalis Georgiou et al.

Summary: The study provides a detailed description of the retinal phenotype of KCNV2-associated retinopathy, showing symmetric retinal changes between eyes and suggesting outer nuclear layer thickness as a potential biomarker for disease progression. Early intervention may be possible until the age of 40.

Genotype-Phenotype Correlations in RP1-Associated Retinal Dystrophies: A Multi-Center Cohort Study in JAPAN

Kei Mizobuchi et al.

Summary: The study on RP1-associated retinal dystrophies in the Japanese population revealed a high prevalence of RP1 variants, with Alu element insertion being the most common variant. Clinical findings showed that AR-RP patients had earlier and faster onset and progression of the disease compared to AD-RP or AR-COD/CORD patients.
