Analysis of RAS gene mutations in adverse events during first induction chemotherapy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Tianping Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the RAS gene mutation profile and prognosis in children with newly diagnosed ALL. The results showed that 27.9% of the patients had RAS gene mutation, which increased the risk of agranulocytosis duration, decreased BMI, and reduced the risk of hyperbilirubinemia.

Brain charts for the human lifespan

R. A. I. Bethlehem et al.

Summary: Neuroimaging has become a widely used tool in brain research, but there is currently a lack of reference standards to quantify individual differences over time. In this study, researchers created an open resource that benchmarks brain morphology using a large dataset of MRI scans. The brain charts identified neurodevelopmental milestones and showed high individual stability and robustness to technical and methodological differences.

A Novel Risk Defining System for Pediatric T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia From CCCG-ALL-2015 Group

Xiaoming Liu et al.

Summary: This study established a new risk grouping system for children with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), demonstrating significantly higher survival rates for patients in the low-risk group compared to those in the intermediate and high-risk groups. The CCCG-ALL-2015 protocol led to improved treatment outcomes for childhood T-ALL, showing better potential in evaluating therapeutic efficacy compared to the CCCG-ALL-2008 protocol.

Reduced Sulcal Depth in Central Sulcus of Major Depressive Disorder

Seung-Joon Shin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the morphometric changes in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and sulcal depth analyses were used to analyze the brain images of MDD patients. The results showed reduced sulcal depth in areas related to motor and emotion functions in MDD patients. Particularly, the reduced sulcal depth in bilateral central sulci may be related to social and physical anhedonia in MDD.

Prognostic factors for CNS control in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated without cranial irradiation

Jingyan Tang et al.

Summary: An analysis of 7640 pediatric patients treated under the Chinese Children's Cancer Group ALL-2015 protocol identified male sex, BCR-ABL1 fusion in B-ALL, and high leukocyte count in T-ALL as risk factors for isolated CNS relapse. Additionally, the use of total intravenous anesthesia during intrathecal therapy and flow cytometry examination of diagnostic cerebrospinal fluid in B-ALL patients were associated with lower relapse rates.

Cognitive function of children and adolescent survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia: A meta-analysis

Kalliopi Mavrea et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis compares the intelligence quotient (IQ) scores between survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and healthy controls, revealing that survivors have significantly lower total IQ, verbal IQ, and performance IQ scores. Regular, lifelong follow-up for neurocognitive late effects is essential to improve the education and employment prospects, as well as overall quality of life for children and adolescents with ALL.

A model of tension-induced fiber growth predicts white matter organization during brain folding

Kara E. Garcia et al.

Summary: The article discusses a new theoretical framework regarding the physical processes of cerebral cortex folding, proposing that cortical folding may induce subcortical fiber growth and organization. Through simulations and experiments, it is demonstrated that subcortical stresses resulting from folding are sufficient to induce stereotyped fiber organization beneath gyri and sulci, supporting the viewpoint of cortical growth-induced folding.

Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Hiroto Inaba et al.

Summary: Over the past five decades, the outcomes of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have significantly improved, with 5-year survival rates exceeding 90% in high-income countries. The goal for the next decade is to further increase survival towards 100% and minimize treatment-related adverse effects. Genome-wide analyses have allowed for the classification of ALL into various subtypes, with treatment response and minimal residual disease analysis providing insights for new therapeutic strategies.
