Current status and future direction of duck hepatitis A virus vaccines

Yanyan Zhang et al.

Summary: Duck viral hepatitis (DVH) is a highly fatal and rapidly spreading infectious disease of young ducklings caused by duck hepatitis A virus (DHAV). The emergence of a novel genotype (DHAV-3) has increased the complexity of disease outbreaks and necessitates the development of new vaccines and effective vaccination programmes. This review provides comprehensive information on the epidemiology, pathogenicity, and genomic features of DHAV, and analyzes the features of commercial and experimental DHAV vaccines, offering perspectives for disease control tailored to different countries' specific situations.

Duck hepatitis A virus prevalence in mainland China between 2009 and 2021: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Siyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the incidence and mortality rates of duck hepatitis A virus (DHAV) in mainland China, as well as the seroprevalence of DHAV. The study found that the incidence of DHAV was 12% and the mortality rate was 11%. DHAV-3 subtype accounted for a higher proportion of the tested samples.

NOD1 Is Associated With the Susceptibility of Pekin Duck Flock to Duck Hepatitis A Virus Genotype 3

Suyun Liang et al.

Summary: By comparing the genomes and transcriptomes of resistant and susceptible duck flocks, the study identified a strong association of NOD1 with the susceptibility of ducks to Duck viral hepatitis. Further experiments revealed that NOD1 expression influenced the number of DHAV-3 genomic copies in duck hepatocytes, providing a potential target for future investigations into the pathogenesis of DVH.

Construction of Recombinant Lactococcus lactis Strain Expressing VP1 Fusion Protein of Duck Hepatitis A Virus Type 1 and Evaluation of Its Immune Effect

Xiaoting Zhang et al.

Summary: The study developed a secretory recombinant L. lactis (MG1363-VP1) expressing the VP1-eGFP fusion protein of DHAV-1, which significantly induced specific immune responses in ducklings. Oral administration of the recombinant L. lactis stimulated both humoral and mucosal immune systems, resulting in protection against DHAV-1 infection and a reduction in mortality rates. The recombinant L. lactis provides a new approach for preventing and controlling DHAV-1 infection in duck farming.
