COVID-19 infection does not seem to affect cognition in college students

Gregory Francis et al.

Summary: Emerging evidence suggests that COVID-19 could cause long-term cognitive impairment by damaging the central nervous system. Self-reports and cognitive ability measures indicate that long COVID may lead to substantial detriments in cognition. To investigate further, we analyzed data from cognitive psychology courses, comparing the cognitive performance of COVID-19 infected and uninfected university students across 24 experiments. Using Bayes Factor analyses, we found that COVID-19 infection had minimal impact on cognition for university students.

On the contagion leakage via incoming flights during China?s aviation policies in the fight against COVID-19

Sebastian Wandelt et al.

Summary: China has implemented strict policies known as the Circuit Breaker mechanism to control the movement of potential virus carriers in cross-border flights during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study reviews the evolution of this unique experiment in the global aviation system from a data-driven perspective. It analyzes 183 events from early 2020 to December 2021, describes the spatial extent and temporal evolution, and develops a regression model to understand universal patterns. The study contributes to the literature on aviation and COVID-19 by examining the challenges and potential of containing a global health threat through strict aviation policies.

Summary: This study identified the significant impact of COVID-19 and the related control measures on China's domestic air transportation. The number of newly confirmed cases and the implemented control measures were found to affect the number of operated flights. The network effect of COVID-19 cases in destination cities, lockdown measures, and different adjustment levels also had different effects on flight operations. The study highlights the positive impact of early-stage control measures on the restoration of the aviation industry and other sectors in later stages of the pandemic.

Effects of COVID-19 on China's civil aviation passenger transport market

Min Su et al.

Summary: COVID-19 has greatly impacted the civil aviation transportation sector in China. The study shows that the virus spread from Wuhan to surrounding cities with positive spatial autocorrelation. Cities that experienced ongoing transmission and frequent recurrence saw a significant decrease in civil aviation passenger throughput. However, due to effective pandemic control measures, the domestic passenger transport industry recovered quickly while international air passenger services continued to suffer. Major cities with high social and economic development experienced a large decline in passenger transport, but they are now taking on most of the passenger transport services again. The impact of COVID-19 on tourism has significantly affected the civil aviation industry, and its recovery depends on the recovery of the tourism industry, led by regions with high social and economic development.

Additionally, there is a slight increase in the popularity of internal medicine, public health, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and radiology. Most pre-medical students believe that doctors frequently experience physical and emotional distress.

The effect of aviation responses to the control of imported COVID-19 cases

Meng Yu et al.

Summary: The global aviation industry has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with challenges in controlling imported cases despite successful measures within countries like China. Empirical assessment revealed that the double negative tests measure is effective in eliminating SARS-CoV-2 carriers, while single circuit breaker and its co-intervention with negative NAT were found to be counterproductive. These findings provide important implications for civil aviation agencies in medium and long-term risk control of imported cases.
