Sexual Victimization in the Digital Age: A Population-Based Study of Physical and Image-Based Sexual Abuse Among Adolescents

Summary: This study found that adolescents are increasingly experiencing sexual victimization, particularly image-based sexual abuse, through their use of social media platforms. The prevalence rates of both physical sexual victimization (PSV) and image-based sexual abuse (IBSA) were examined in a representative sample of Norwegian adolescents. The study revealed that 2.9% of respondents had experienced IBSA, 4.3% had experienced PSV, and 1.7% had experienced both in the past 12 months. There were differences in the characteristics of the victims of PSV and IBSA, with girls reporting higher rates, victims having experienced other forms of violence, and being part of peer groups with substance use. Lesbian, gay, and bisexual adolescents also had higher victimization rates. The findings highlight the changing landscape of sexual victimization patterns in relation to adolescents' use of social media platforms.

An examination of the association between risky sexual behaviors and suicidal behaviors among adolescents: Findings from the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey

Summary: This study investigates the association between risky sexual behaviors and suicidal ideation and suicide attempts among adolescents in the United States. The findings suggest that adolescents who engage in unprotected sexual intercourse or have multiple sexual partners are more likely to experience suicidal ideation and make suicide attempts. Other factors such as sexual minority status, sexual violence victimization, bullying, depression symptoms, and misuse of prescription pain medication are also associated with these outcomes.

The findings revealed that most caregivers had unsatisfactory feeding practices and the children had inadequate dietary diversity and dietary adequacy. This poses a serious risk to the nutritional health of under-five children.

Self-efficacy in using condoms effectively can help prevent these health problems. However, many women do not use condoms when using other contraceptives. It is unknown how many young girls use female condoms. Examining female students' motivation, knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to female condoms in training institutions is important to address this issue.

Effect of integrated reproductive health lesson materials in a problem-based pedagogy on soft skills for safe sexual behaviour among adolescents: A school-based randomized controlled trial in Tanzania

Summary: This study investigated the effect of integrated reproductive health (RH) lesson materials in a problem-based pedagogy (PBP) on increasing the soft skills for safe sexual behavior among adolescents in Tanzania. The findings showed that the intervention significantly enhanced soft skills, such as self-esteem and assertiveness, among adolescents, leading to positive intentions to abstain from sexual intercourse, delay sexual relationships, negotiate condom use, and withstand sexual coercions. The results highlight the importance of incorporating problem-based pedagogy in school curricula to prepare adolescents for a healthy adulthood.
