Comparison of Four International Guidelines on the Utility of Cranial Imaging Before Lumbar Puncture in Adults with Bacterial Meningitis

Summary: This study compared the ability of four international guidelines to identify intracranial abnormalities in adult patients with meningitis. The results showed that only the Infectious Diseases of America (IDSA) guidelines did not miss any major intracranial abnormalities or findings that required neurosurgical intervention, but all guidelines were able to identify cerebral herniation.

Summary: ptNGS showed higher positivity rate and sensitivity in pathogen detection in cerebrospinal fluid compared to mNGS. It also had higher positive predictive value and negative predictive value for diagnosing infectious diseases. Additionally, ptNGS required less time and lower costs for pathogen diagnosis than mNGS.
