The Interplay between Noncoding RNAs and p21 Signaling in Gastrointestinal Cancer: From Tumorigenesis to Metastasis

Farzad Rahmani et al.

Summary: non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play important regulatory roles in various pathological conditions, including human cancer, by targeting cell cycle-related proteins at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. P21, a key cell cycle regulatory protein, has both tumor-suppressive and oncogenic effects depending on its localization and post-translational modifications. It regulates G1/S and G2/M checkpoints by interacting with cyclin-dependent kinase enzymes (CDKs) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Several ncRNAs, including lncRNAs and miRNAs, have been found to regulate the p21 signaling axis, which is involved in gastrointestinal tumorigenesis. Understanding the regulatory effects of ncRNAs on p21 may lead to the discovery of novel therapeutic targets in gastrointestinal cancer.

Enhanced sciatic nerve regeneration with fibrin scaffold containing human endometrial stem cells and insulin encapsulated chitosan particles: An in vivo study

Zahra Taherian Mobarakeh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regeneration of sciatic nerves using human endometrial stem cells (hEnSCs) encapsulated in fibrin gel containing chitosan nanoparticles loaded with insulin (Ins-CPs). The results demonstrated that the combination of these nanoparticles and stem cells significantly improved motor function and sensory recovery.

Molecular study of the proliferation process of beta cells derived from pluripotent stem cells

Saeedeh Akhavan et al.

Summary: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder, and a significant advancement in treatment is the differentiation and proliferation of beta cells from induced pluripotent stem cells. Studies suggest that a combination of growth factors and small molecules can promote beta-cell proliferation, while proliferation of beta cells on nanofibers scaffolds can enhance beta-cell function by creating a similar in vivo environment.

Cardiac Complications in Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Diagnostic Accuracy of BNP and N-Terminal Pro-BNP

Mahboobeh Sheikh et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis of 13 studies suggests that BNP and NT-proBNP levels can be used as diagnostic tools for cardiac complications in pregnant and recently-delivered women. While BNP showed relatively better diagnostic accuracy compared to NT-proBNP, further studies are needed to confirm the prospective use of NT-proBNP and clarify inconsistent findings.

miRNAomics analysis reveals the promoting effects of cigarette smoke extract-treated Beas-2B-derived exosomes on macrophage polarization

Zhen Chen et al.

Summary: Cigarette smoke-induced inflammation in the lungs, leading to conditions like COPD, is influenced by macrophage polarization and cross-talk between alveolar macrophages and lung epithelial cells via exosomes and miRNAs. This study identified differentially expressed exosomal miRNAs and their target genes involved in regulating macrophage polarization pathways. Furthermore, miR-21-3p and miR-27b-3p were found to play critical roles in promoting macrophage polarization in response to cigarette smoke exposure.
