Assessment of antibiotic resistance and biofilm formation of Enterococcus species isolated from different pig farm environments in Poland

Katarzyna Grudlewska-Buda et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the occurrence and antimicrobial susceptibility of EFA and EFM strains isolated from a pig farm environment and determined the biofilm formation ability of identified Enterococcus spp. strains. The results showed the presence of antibiotic-resistant strains in the pig farm environment, posing significant challenges and threats to the clinical management of enterococcal infections. Therefore, monitoring trends in this biological phenomenon is of great importance to public health.

Evidence of Linezolid Resistance and Virulence Factors in Enterococcus spp. Isolates from Wild and Domestic Ruminants, Italy

Camilla Smoglica et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the resistance patterns of Enterococcus isolates from wild and domestic ruminants in a protected area in Italy. The study found the presence of linezolid-resistant enterococci carrying virulence genes in wild animals, highlighting their potential role as indicators of antibiotic resistance.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence, antibiogram profiles, sequence analysis, virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes, and pathogenicity of A. veronii recovered from Mugil seheli. The prevalence of A. veronii in the examined fish was 22.5%, and the strains shared high genetic similarity with those from other countries. The isolates were found to harbor various virulence and resistance genes, presenting a risk to public health.

Are dogs and cats a reservoir of resistant and virulent Enterococcus faecalis strains and a potential threat to public health?

A. Troscianczyk et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess resistance and virulence of Enterococcus faecalis isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of dogs and cats, analyze their genotypic variability, and estimate the correlation between antimicrobial resistance, virulence determinants, and genotypic profiles. The results showed a high percentage of resistant strains to various antibiotics, high heterogeneity of genotypic profiles among E. faecalis, and the presence of common virulence genes such as efaAfs, cpd, ccf, and cob. Companion animals were confirmed to be a reservoir of E. faecalis carrying resistance and virulence determinants.

High-Level Resistance to Erythromycin and Tetracycline and Dissemination of Resistance Determinants among Clinical Enterococci in Iran

Nikta Ahmadpoor et al.

Summary: This study revealed a high prevalence of high-level resistance to both erythromycin and tetracycline in enterococcus isolates, with alterations at the ribosomal level more frequently detected in erythromycin and tetracycline resistance than efflux systems. Concurrent resistance mechanisms were more involved in resistance to erythromycin than tetracycline.
