Biological Function and Stress Response Mechanism of MYB Transcription Factor Family Genes

Rui Ma et al.

Summary: This review comprehensively summarizes the research progress of MYB transcription factors (TFs) in terms of origin and evolution, structural characteristics and classification, biological function, and stress response mechanism. The limitations of the current field and prospects for future research are also discussed, providing a theoretical basis for further elucidating the transcriptional regulatory network of MYB TF family and breeding new crop varieties with strong stress resistance.

The phloem lectin PP2-A1 enhances aphid resistance by affecting aphid behavior and maintaining ROS homeostasis in cucumber plants

Yapeng Li et al.

Summary: Aphid attack often leads to decreased yields and deteriorated fruit quality in cucumber. The overexpression of CsPP2-A1 in cucumber plants resulted in resistance against aphids, with significantly lower colonization rates and reproductions compared to wild type and CsPP2-A1-RNAi plants. CsPP2-A1 played a crucial role in balancing reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plants, and its overexpression increased antioxidant enzyme levels, eliminating ROS and preventing their damage in cucumber. Furthermore, the overexpressed CsPP2-A1 cucumber plants showed nutritional imbalance for aphids and increased content of secondary metabolites, thereby preventing aphid attack.

A Comprehensive Identification and Function Analysis of Serine/Arginine-Rich (SR) Proteins in Cotton (Gossypium spp.)

Fei Wei et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive comparative analysis of SR proteins in cotton and determined their phylogeny. The domain, motif distribution, and gene structure of cotton SR proteins were found to be conserved. The expansion of SR genes in cotton was mainly due to WGD and allopolyploidization events. The study also revealed the important role of GhSR genes in plant resistance to abiotic stresses.

A Comprehensive Gene Co-Expression Network Analysis Reveals a Role of GhWRKY46 in Responding to Drought and Salt Stresses

Pengyun Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanisms of drought and salt resistance in cotton were investigated through transcriptomic data analysis. Co-expression modules related to transcription factors (TFs) were identified using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Further KEGG and GO analysis revealed the association between these modules and stress resistance. The expression levels of 15 hub TFs were confirmed through quantitative RT-PCR analysis. It was found that the gene GhWRKY46 could alter the resistance to salt and drought stress in cotton.

Overexpression of CsPP2-A1 in cucumber enhanced salt tolerance by participating ABA-JA signaling pathway and antioxidant system

Changxia Du et al.

Summary: CsPP2-A1 is a gene related to plant salt tolerance in cucumber, and its overexpression can enhance the resistance of cucumber and Arabidopsis to salt stress and regulate the antioxidant system. Transcriptome sequencing analysis also revealed that CsPP2-A1 is involved in the MAPK pathway, ABA and JA signaling pathway, as well as stress adaptation and response.

Loss-of-function of ARABIDOPSIS F-BOX PROTEIN HYPERSENSITIVE TO ABA 1 enhances drought tolerance and delays germination

Hani Kim et al.

Summary: ABA is a phytohormone involved in various plant events, and AFA1 is an F-box protein that negatively regulates ABA signaling by interacting with adaptor proteins of the SCF complex. Loss of AFA1 leads to increased drought tolerance and altered expression of ABA-responsive genes. Epistasis analysis suggests that AFA1 may act upstream of ABI4 and ABI5 in the ABA signaling pathway for germination inhibition.

Summary: Identification of cold-tolerance genes is critical for global tomato production. Overexpression of ShPP2-1 and SlACR11A showed opposite effects on cold tolerance in tomato plants. Genetic engineering projects can target these genes to enhance cold tolerance.
