Robot-assisted retroperitoneal lymph node dissection: a systematic review of perioperative outcomes

Summary: The safety and feasibility of robot-assisted retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (R-RPLND) were assessed, and the perioperative outcomes of R-RPLND were compared with open RPLND (O-RPLND). The study found that R-RPLND had acceptable perioperative outcomes in both primary and post-chemotherapy settings, but a higher rate of conversion to open surgery in the post-chemotherapy setting. Compared to O-RPLND, R-RPLND was associated with a lower transfusion rate and fewer overall complications.

A comparative study of peri-operative outcomes for 100 consecutive post-chemotherapy and primary robot-assisted and open retroperitoneal lymph node dissections

Summary: The study compared the peri-operative outcomes of robot-assisted and open retroperitoneal lymph node dissection and found that robot-assisted surgery generally performed better in terms of blood loss, operative duration, hospital length-of-stay, and anejaculation rates, with the exception of lower lymph node yields. Longer term follow-up is needed to assess its impact on oncological outcomes.

Outcomes of Postchemotherapy Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection from a High-volume UK Centre Compared with a National Data Set
