Treatment of wastewater using black soldier fly larvae, under different degrees of biodegradability and oxidation of organic content

Valentina Grossule et al.

Summary: The study found that the biodegradability and degree of oxidation of organic content significantly influenced the treatment performance and biomass quality in the biological treatment process using Black Soldier Fly larvae. Higher biodegradability and lower oxidation degree resulted in better larvae growth, lower mortality, and higher substrate consumption rate. However, there were no significant differences observed in larvae protein and lipid contents.

Efficient nitrate removal by Pseudomonas mendocina GL6 immobilized on biochar

Wen Zhang et al.

Summary: The performance of nitrate removal by Pseudomonas mendocina GL6 cells immobilized on bamboo biochar was superior to that of free cells, with higher nitrate removal rate and capacity. Immobilized cells fitting well to zero-order kinetics model displayed increased efficiency in nitrate removal under various conditions, likely due to the protective effect of biochar carrier and enhanced expression levels of denitrification functional genes and electron transfer genes. Biochar-immobilized P. mendocina GL6 has great potential for removing nitrate from wastewater via aerobic denitrification.
