Exosome-encapsulated miR-26a attenuates aldosterone-induced tubulointerstitial fibrosis by inhibiting the CTGF/SMAD3 signaling pathway

Hui Zheng et al.

Summary: Renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis (TIF) is a key process in the progression of chronic kidney disease, with excessive activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system playing a crucial role. This study aimed to investigate the effect of miR-26a on aldosterone-induced TIF and found that exosome-delivered miR-26a could alleviate TIF, tubular injury, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Mechanistically, miR-26a inhibited connective tissue growth factor expression by directly binding to its 3'-UTR and inhibiting the activation of SMAD3. These findings provide new insights into the treatment of chronic kidney disease.

Effects of borneol combined with astragaloside IV and Panax notoginseng saponins regulation of microglia polarization to promote neurogenesis after cerebral ischaemia

Huang Ding et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of BAP on promoting neurogenesis by regulating microglia polarization after CI/R in rats. BAP can inhibit the activation of TLR4/MyD88/NF kappa B, regulate the polarization of microglia from M1 type to M2 type, and inhibit inflammatory response, thus reducing CI/R injury and promoting neurogenesis.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A regulates lymphangiogenesis and inflammation via the inhibition of PI3K on regulating AKT/mTOR and NF-ΚB pathway in macrophages to reduce atherosclerosis in ApoE-/- mice

Xiaoteng Feng et al.

Summary: The study aimed to uncover the key site of Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA) in improving atherosclerosis by regulating macrophage-induced inflammation and lymphangiogenesis. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed that HSYA affects inflammation and inflammation-associated lymphangiogenesis via suppressing PI3K to affect AKT/mTOR and NF-B pathway activation in macrophages, demonstrating a comprehensive protective effect on atherosclerosis.

PK/PD modeling to characterize placebo and treatment effect of omalizumab for chronic spontaneous urticaria

Elise Oh et al.

Summary: The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of omalizumab in chronic spontaneous urticaria have not been fully characterized. This study aims to describe the population pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of omalizumab and develop a drug effect model for urticaria treatment. The developed model incorporates omalizumab-IgE binding and turnover and adequately describes the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of omalizumab. It has the potential to aid in understanding variability in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and response to omalizumab treatment.

Quercetin regulates vascular endothelium function in chronic renal failure via modulation of Eph/Cav-1 signaling

Jing Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to uncover the impacts of Quercetin (Quer) on vascular endothelial cells in a chronic renal failure (CRF) rat model and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and serum from CRF rats. The results showed that Quer improved renal function impairment and endothelial injury in vivo, boosted cell proliferation, suppressed apoptosis, elevated NO and eNOS levels, and modulated Eph/Cav-1 signaling pathway.

Renal Fibrosis in Lupus Nephritis

Savino Sciascia et al.

Summary: Fibrosis is a pathological process that can affect the kidney, leading to persistent inflammation or long-term injury. Recently, there has been increasing attention on interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy as markers of injury severity, predictors of treatment response, and prognostic factors for renal outcome in lupus nephritis (LN). This review explores the mechanisms of fibrogenesis in LN and the importance of the chronicity index in predicting treatment response and renal prognosis. Understanding the cellular and molecular pathways involved in fibrosis in LN could help identify individuals at higher risk of chronic kidney disease and develop new therapeutic strategies for lupus patients.

ShenKang Injection Attenuates Renal Fibrosis by Inhibiting EMT and Regulating the Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway

Hui-Ting Wei et al.

Summary: Shenkang Injection (SKI), a traditional Chinese medicine injection, has been found to have anti-fibrotic effects in the treatment of chronic kidney disease. The study suggests that SKI may inhibit renal fibrosis by regulating the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway and inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The results show that SKI reduces morphological changes and collagen deposition associated with renal fibrosis, and improves kidney function by lowering blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels.
