Quassinoids from Picrasma chinensis with Insecticidal Activity against Adults and Larvae of Diaphorina citri Kuwayama and Neuroprotective Effect

Xianzhe Fan et al.

Summary: Eleven new tetracyclic quassinoids, named picrachinensin A-K (1-11), were isolated from the stems and leaves of Picrasma chinensis, together with six known congeners. Their structures were determined by various spectral techniques, crystallographic analysis, and circular dichroism. Compound 7 showed better insecticidal activity against Diaphorina citri Kuwayama than the positive control, with an LD50 of 55.69 mg/L for adults and a mortality rate of 30.42 +/- 2.78% for larvae (100 mg/L). The hydroxymethyl group at C-13 position of quassinoids was found to be beneficial for their insecticidal activity. Additionally, compounds 1, 4, and 12 exhibited significant neuroprotective effect against oxidative injury in SH-SY5Y cells.

New polychlorinated bibenzyls from Rhododendron minutiflorum

Yang-Li Zhu et al.

Summary: Five new polychlorinated bibenzyls (1-5) and three known compounds (6-8) were isolated from Rhododendron minutiflorum stems and leaves. The chemical structures of all isolates were determined using spectroscopic methods, and compounds 1 and 2 were verified using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Compounds 1-5 were halogenated compounds with three to five chlorine atoms in their chemical structures. Biologically, compounds 2, 5, and 6 showed varying levels of toxicity against Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) with LD50 values of 27.15, 17.02, and 16.20 mg/L, respectively. These values were comparable to the positive control matrine (LD50 = 11.86 mg/L) based on observations on day 6. Additionally, compound 4 exhibited alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of 17.87 +/- 0.74 μM.

cis-Clerodane Diterpenoids with Structural Diversity and Anti-inflammatory Activity from Tinospora crispa

Jin-Qiu You et al.

Summary: Twelve new cis-clerodane diterpenoids, named crispinoids A-L (1-12), along with three known analogues (13-15), were isolated from Tinospora crispa. Their structures were fully determined using comprehensive spectroscopic techniques, single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) analyses. The isolated compounds exhibited diverse heterocyclic frameworks and demonstrated inhibition of key pathways and inflammatory responses.

Rearranged clerodane diterpenoid from Tinospora crispa

Abidah Parveen et al.

Summary: A new rearranged clerodane diterpenoid, tinocrispide, was isolated from the stems of Tinospora crispa along with thirteen known compounds, including eight clerodane diterpenoids. Among the known compounds, baenzigeride A, (6S, 9 R)-vomifoliol, and steponine were reported for the first time from T. crispa. Structures were elucidated using 1D and 2D NMR and confirmed by HRESIMS. Additionally, the C-13 NMR data of borapetol A has been revised.

Augmentation therapy with minocycline in treatment-resistant depression patients with low-grade peripheral inflammation: results from a double-blind randomised clinical trial

Maria Antonietta Nettis et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of minocycline augmentation in patients with treatment-resistant depression based on baseline levels of peripheral inflammation. Results showed that the efficacy of minocycline as an adjunct treatment was only seen in patients with low-grade inflammation defined as CRP >= 3 mg/L. These findings suggest that baseline inflammation levels may play a role in predicting response to minocycline in MDD patients.
