Phenolic acids and flavonoids-rich Glechoma hederacea L. (Lamiaceae) water extract against H2O2-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells

Wen-Wan Chao et al.

Summary: Glechoma hederacea L. (Lamiaceae) has been found to have various biological activities such as depigmentation, antimelanogenic, antitumor, antioxidative, hepatoprotective, and anti-inflammatory activities. The study showed that hot water extract of G. hederacea L. containing phenolic acids and flavonoids could protect PC12 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative stress and potentially have neuroprotective effects.

Moringa oleifera Hot Water Extract Protects Vero Cells from Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Oxidative Stress by Regulating Mitochondria-Mediated Apoptotic Pathway and Nrf2/HO-1 Signaling

Kirinde Gedara Isuru Sandanuwan Kirindage et al.

Summary: The present study identified phenolic compounds in Moringa oleifera hot water extract (MOH) and evaluated its antioxidant activity on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in Vero cells. Results showed that MOH exhibited strong radical scavenging and antioxidant properties, reduced ROS generation, increased cell viability, suppressed mitochondrial depolarization and apoptosis, and activated the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

Effects of Alternanthera sessilis Red leaf extracts on hydrogen peroxide- induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells and identification of phytochemicals using HPLC-QToF-MS/MS

Ummi Husni Aminah Mohd Hazli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ability of Alternanthera sessilis Red leaf extracts to protect HepG2 cells against oxidative damage. The extracts improved cellular antioxidant status, reduced reactive oxygen species levels, and inhibited lipid peroxidation in the cells. The presence of 30 phytochemicals, including polyphenols, in the leaf extracts was identified, highlighting their potential as natural antioxidants for protecting cells from oxidative damage.

Probiotics-Derived Extracellular Vesicles Protect Oxidative Stress against H2O2 Induction in Placental Cells

Le-Ming Wang et al.

Summary: Abnormal microbial growth in the vagina and a reduction in the proportion of lactic acid bacteria have been found to promote spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB). This study demonstrates that Lactobacillus crispatus-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) can improve the physiological functions of placental cells, reduce cell senescence, and enhance resistance to oxidative stress induced damage. The results suggest that maintaining a population of L. crispatus in the vaginal environment could be an adjuvant treatment strategy to prevent sPTB.

Min-Jeong Cheon et al.

Summary: Heat-killed Lactobacillus plantarum 200655 has been found to increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and protect neuronal cells from oxidative stress, while also reducing apoptosis-related gene ratios. These findings suggest that L. plantarum 200655 may serve as a prophylactic functional ingredient for preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

Summary: Accumulating evidence suggests that oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis and progression of many diseases, with conflicting contributions in gastrointestinal disorders. Oxidative stress has been shown to impact gastrointestinal motility and muscle phenotype changes. Although potential therapeutic strategies using antioxidants for inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases are promising, further research is needed to clarify the involvement of oxidative stress in mucosal disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

Hydrogen Peroxide Effects on Natural-Sourced Polysacchrides: Free Radical Formation/Production, Degradation Process, and Reaction Mechanism-A Critical Synopsis

Chigozie E. Ofoedu et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species, particularly hydrogen peroxide, play a key role in generating harmful free radicals that can cause cellular damage, leading to various diseases. Polysaccharides from natural sources, despite limitations in bioactivity, have gained attention for their potential as functional ingredients. Degradation of polysaccharides can improve their functionality and bioactivity, particularly in the presence of free radicals such as H2O2.
