Antioxidant and Pulmonary Protective Potential of Fraxinus xanthoxyloides Bark Extract against CCl4-Induced Toxicity in Rats

Tahira Younis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and pulmonary protective potential of Fraxinus xanthoxyloides bark extract and its fractions. The highest total phenolics, flavonoids, and terpenoids contents were found in the methanol bark extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and chloroform fraction, respectively. The most potent antioxidant capacity was shown by the methanol bark extract and ethyl acetate fraction. The administration of carbon tetrachloride induced oxidative stress and lung tissue damage, but treatment with the bark extract restored these parameters to normal levels and protected the lung tissues.

Hypericum perforatum L. Nanoemulsion Mitigates Cisplatin-Induced Chemobrain via Reducing Neurobehavioral Alterations, Oxidative Stress, Neuroinflammation, and Apoptosis in Adult Rats

Heba M. A. Khalil et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective action of Hypericum perforatum L. (HP L.) and its nanoemulsion (HP.NE) against cisplatin-induced neurotoxicity. HP L. and HP.NE-treated rats showed improved motor activity and spatial working memory, enhanced antioxidant defense system, reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines levels, and increased expression of PON-3 and GPX genes associated with reduced COX-2 and TP-53 levels in the brain. These findings were confirmed by reduced expression of NF-Kappa B and increased Ki-67 levels. In conclusion, HP L. is a promising herb as an adjuvant candidate to ameliorate chemotherapeutic-induced neurotoxicity, and HP.NE has superior activity in lessening cisplatin-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in brain tissue.
