Hops extract and xanthohumol ameliorate bone loss induced by iron overload via activating Akt/GSK3β/Nrf2 pathway

Xiaolei Sun et al.

Summary: This study found that hops and xanthohumol could ameliorate bone loss induced by iron overload by activating the Akt/GSK3 beta/Nrf2 pathway. They also altered the expression of proteins related to bone metabolism and promoted cell proliferation and bone formation. Furthermore, they inhibited the increase of oxidative stress caused by iron overload. These findings provide a new perspective for the therapy of senile osteoporosis.
