Long-chain bio-olefins production via oxidative dehydrogenation of oleic acid over vanadium oxides/KIT-6 catalysts

Summary: Long-chain alpha-olefins, derived from palm oil, can be obtained via oxidative dehydrogenation using VxOy incorporated with KIT-6 catalysts. The VxOy species in the catalyst exist mainly in a tetrahedral form. The highest selectivity towards olefins was achieved with a V/Si molar ratio of 0.05.

Investigation of product selectivity and kinetics of poplar sawdust catalytic pyrolysis over bi-metallic Iron-Nickel/ZSM-5 catalyst

Summary: In this study, the product selectivity and kinetics of poplar sawdust catalytic pyrolysis over bi-metallic Fe-Ni/ZSM-5 were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis and Py-GC/MS. The results showed that Fe-Ni/ZSM-5 exhibited higher selectivity towards monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons compared to monometallic catalysts. The addition of Fe-Ni/ZSM-5 also reduced the activation energy of the pyrolysis process, making it a potentially valuable catalyst for biomass conversion.

However, improving the quality of bio-oil is crucial due to the challenges posed by the complex pyrolysis process of biomass, low calorific value, high oxygen content, and strong acidity.Various techniques such as direct catalytic pyrolysis, fast pyrolysis, and catalytic upgrading have been explored to prepare bio-oil and high value chemicals from biomass, each with its own achievements and challenges. Additionally, the catalytic characteristics of catalysts and their specific applications in catalytic pyrolysis, catalytic cracking, and catalytic hydrogenation are systematically summarized to provide new directions for lignocellulose biomass energy utilization research.

Highly efficient catalytic pyrolysis of biomass vapors upgraded into jet fuel range hydrocarbon-rich bio-oil over a bimetallic Pt-Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst

Summary: Catalytic pyrolysis is an effective method for converting biomass into value-added chemicals, but developing cost-effective catalysts remains a challenge. A highly efficient bimetallic Pt-Ni catalyst was fabricated for upgrading biomass into hydrocarbon-rich bio-oil. The addition of Pt improved the interaction between NiO and alumina, enhancing nickel dispersion and promoting C=O hydrogenation. The Pt-Ni/Al = 1:2 catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance, achieving highest peak areas of desired hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons.

One-pot upgrading of coconut coir lignin over high-efficiency Ni2P catalysts

Summary: In this study, the depolymerization of lignin using Ni2P catalysts supported on nitrogen doped activated carbon (Ni2P/AC_N) was investigated. The proposed reaction mechanism involves lignin depolymerization via C-O and C-C cleavage with subsequent phenol formation by demethoxylation, making the Ni2P/AC_N catalyst a promising candidate for lignin transformation to phenol.
